Jayen,
I agree with your views.Earlier in Sex education discussion also many have the thought that it will take our children to a curious world and they will begin to investigate on it.But as I told earlier every coin has two sides. It is the morality and character of the person that determins the wise usage.

Ponography is a cheap business trick to exploit the instinct in human beings. The site owners knows that all humans can be easily attracted to this sites. If we look to the statics it is seen that ponographic sites all over the net bags a lion part of browsing time. Why? That is human Character.
Then What is the remedy to this ? The only method is to ban it.Saudi Arabia had banned all such sites. All of us knows that it is a country with less number of crimes committed. How it became so?Due to its strict and rigid laws.If a banned thing is done and caught definitely he will get maximum punishment.

Here some may have the opinion that in a democratic country it is impossible. But in a democratic country the citizen has to behave to his fellow citizens in good manner.Almost all ponographic sites are full of scenes from bedroom , bathroom etc which are taken secretly.Using this blackmailing also going on.The high payment that these sites offers to the picture/movie suppliers really attract many to indulge in such wicked practices. So to make our society a cultured one these sites are to be banned.

I agree with both Jayen and Abid.
If we need to ban pornography then we should also demolish temples that have naked statues and books like Kamasutra should be banned also. Also even though Dubai has banned porn you should know that the most number of child harassment and child abuse takes place in Dubai and surrounding places.

India from earlier has porn everywhere, in it's art, in it's temples, in it's culture then can we ban our whole culture...

I am NOT telling that porn is SACRED. But there is a limitation to everything. You cannot the ban the thoughts of human mind which is far more faster than a Google search.

I think it was due to that times traditions and customs.Man had developed and more cultured now.So becoming an animal at present situation is not good.

Also we cannot blame temple arts as porn.Once upon a time the temples were open to cream layer of society only. And most of the kings of that time were having number of ladies in their palace. So according to their culture they made it open to people also through arts. But today it is not the situation.
Also that pics will not arouse the sexual instincts and feelings of man or woman as the porn sites do.So to keep our society in right path porn sites should be banned. It is not equal to banning our culture, but preserving our culture.

I accept however India is bigger than Saudi-Arabia and the population of saudi-arabia is much lesser than India and it is easy to implement a ban in smaller country rather than in bigger country
The thing what i cannot understand is why are the people forcing certain things to be done?

Okay let us take like this if pornography is being banned by the government completely you mean to tell that you can eradicate it no but you are laying a new path to experiment them in live i mean they tend to go to prostitutes and so on.... whether it is correct?
Yes Deivigan,
We have to try a new path to improve the morality of the whole Indian Society and to become a model to the world. All of us are witnessing the demerits of uncontrolled sex and ponographic sites will add more to that side.Government had sensored some films as Adults only, but theatres will issue ticket to all hands in their counter without looking the age.So the best method to prevent its spread is banning the site.

This is my 1400th post in forum.
Your talking only about the ban and not worried about the side effects that we will face after that so that only the government are still at stake don't know what to do??????????????

But it is really difficult to ban and try to keep an eye on everyone's network and keep on checking whether they are watching any pornographic sites or not
A question has been raised regarding father's reaction on his son smoking. This is family matter. The parents, couple or children can regulate their affairs. But here we are not discussing family matter. The question is about public policy on banning pornography. Even if government does not ban pornography, parents may regulate. I wish to highlight the importance of sex and erotic in arts, literature and other fine arts. Erotica (Shringar Ras in Hindi literature) is very important in literature. Any literature, sculpture, painting cannot be conceived without erotica. There is very thin dividing line between erotica and pornography. We cannot leave this issue to be decided by government. If we are to restrict pornography, this should be left to a committee of experts in literature, films, paintings etc. We cannot expect the Government to ban Ajanta, Elora and Konark paintings and works. There is no reason why we should entrust government with such task for contemporary artistic work.
Gulshan,
As you told Ajantha and Ellora are artistic works. We can say that is the right of an artist.Agreed.But opening a ponographic site for public view is not an artistic work.It is not a creative work also.It is absolutely a destructive work, openly releasing an evil to the society. All the evils in the society is to be controlled and as a first step to control this largest evil the sites are to be banned first.

First of all thanks to both of you for reading my reply to the topic. Well if you have read the conclusion to my reply on this topic, I have mentioned that rather than banning it, it should be showcased in the public as a decease through strong awareness of its ill effects that's all. After such awareness i am sure most of the people will start avoiding such things. Not only that a new site on sex education should be opened by Govt itself wherein access to such site should be based on election card number. As all of you know that election cards are issued only one who attends adult age as per constitution of India.
This will solve dual purpose of people automatically register for election cards. What say!
Hope everyone agrees to one thing the discussion has been very healthy so far because the kind of intellect that is flowing here is tremendous. Hats off to all dicussing this topic.
Abid- Pornography is definitely not desirable and needs to be curbed. But there is thin dividing line between erotica and pornography. We cannot entrust government with the job of censoring literature, paintings, films and other artistic works. This should be left to experts from literary, films and other such fields. What happens in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia or Singapore is not ideal. We are a democracy unlike these countries. We must abide by law. People are supreme. The Government has no authority apart from implementing mandate of people. Unlike dictatorial regimes, our government cannot allocate to itself the authority to decide what the people should see or not.
I agree with Gulshan. That's why instead of banning it start public awareness about the ills of ponography by treating and showcasing it as diseases. ANd to do this on large scale Govt participation is necessary.

Precisely, this is what I was about to say...

BANNING cannot totally be entrusted with the government which has many other problems to solve..Pornography is not a small issue where when banned people will stop doing it. Even there were instances where Alcohol was banned in some states but at that stage people started smuggling and the business was at it's peak. Not only in India but every where it's impossible to curb pornography.

This should start from the family itself. Parents should be able to discuss the ill effects with their children and should be free to listen what children say. This may help to decrease the curiosity of teenagers to google about porn sites.

This will be the first step...
The next step is this...

Awareness campaigns should be created among teenagers especially and schools should be ready to allow these awareness campaigns to the 9th and 10th students especially cos that's the age where the children start getting such ideas...

Teachers should not become shy and stop teaching topics related to sex and matters cos a school is where kids learn everything. When kids come to the conclusion that sex related matters are prohibited then the curiosity increases immediately makes them search ways and means to get info on it which most of the times is from their friends..

Government should be able to make a way to make the banning serious without any loopholes and there should be strict punishment on those who involve in such crimes...

Jayen-

Yes, this will be very good point. But all this to happen it takes more than a decade for our country because there should be no loopholes and stringent rules to make people aware the seriousness of this issue and the ill effects....

Hope this will happen, atleast starts...
Thanks Abid, Gulshan, Deivigan, Jayen and others who had participated in this discussion which is mostly avoided.

I'm really sorry to see this but most of the other members who were active in other discussions are not active in this session.

Is this because of the intensity of the topic??

This itself shows the avoiding nature for these type of issues and shy away from discussing. Everyone should change and that should start from within us
ya.. Certainly porn movies should be banned by the government.Such movies not only tends the youngsters to watch those movies but also misguides them.
Jayen,
I agree to your views of awareness programme. But government had decided to start sex education in school level which itself had opposed by many.Actually it is the first thing to be done. The main reason for oppose is that it will increase sexual curiosity of teenagers. If education has that effect what will be the effect of a awareness programme of a pure ponographic site.Surely more will know about it and will visit the sites.

Instead if it is banned on one fine morning without any declaration and publicity naturally users may think it was due to some technical problems. So his curiosity for the day may be cooled.Like that he will train or adjust himself.
