Actually, it would be good if the names of all the other freedom fighters get omitted and only the names of Gandhi and his followers remain. Everyone respects Gandhiji's contribution but I don't understand why we fail to give due recognition to others as well. His non-violence method was definitely unique, people did respond to his call but leaders who were not the advocates of non-violence they too had a huge follow base. Still, the call of these leaders do not count. Nationalistic feeling is basically an inner call of an individual. Chose Gandhi or some other leader to get India's freedom was only an ideological difference but ignoring the sacrifices made by the other group of leaders reflect our narrow mindedness.    

According to Late Rajeev Dixit, an associate of Swami Ramdev, Britain got very heavy loan from India for second world war.  In return, independence was promised. After second world ware, India indeed got independence. But Britain never returned the loan. If the loan were returned, India would not need to get heavy international  loans for development purposes.  Britain not only did not return the original amount but even not paid any interest. This it appears that the loan was like 'pagri'  that an illegal occupant gets for vacating a house.  British were illegal occupants of India territory and they vacated after getting huge amount disguised as loan for second world war.

British colonies were formed with the specific purpose of plundering and reaping the maximum benefits they could. That was how the times were. Mughals came even before them and destroyed and looted and then followed the British, Portugese and the French in smaller ways. British, along with their spread of empire and loot did some good for the nation too..

The final outcome, Freedom was a result of Non violence and Satyagrah under the capable leadership of Gandhiji. No indian can deny this very truth of Indian history. His greatness has been recognized globally. He became our "Father of Nation" and is respected worldwide with his images and statues being revered in all parts of world. He led us to freedom. But the seed for freedom was sown a long time back. The first recorded one was Revolt of 1857, the Sepoy Mutiny. And it was a violent revolt. There were other freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Netaji to name a few. They fought and sacrificed their lives. Each one contributed immensely to the cause of freedom and though not in a non-violent way. 

Each small episode by theses fighters added to the wave and spirit of freedom across the Nation. Gandhiji's effort in a non-violet way took the final sweep but the contribution from these fighters who fought fearlessly can not be demeaned.
