Whether you like it or not, for the reasons best known to you,I.P.L is back, its consistent performance from past 2years shows that, it's gonna stay no matter what.In India, where cricket is more than a religion and players more than Gods, launch of any cricketing event like I.P.L can be seen as an expected and an ideal move. With the entry of Bollywood stars as franchisees in the I.P.L, has only helped raise the entertainment value to this whole event.
This year, I.P.L made slight changes like removing the icon players system, granting permission to the players who once played in I.C.L(Indian cricket league) and including new venues for matches to be played.
While I.P.L is applauded by many it is criticized too for the whole auctioning process where the players, go under hammer, just like any other non-living thing which is quite disturbing and unfair.Critics also argue that it turns the players into money-minded and it ultimately kills the spirit and zeal to play for their very own nation.
This theory doesn't appeal me at all.In fact I.P.L gives lot of scope for self-improvement of the players and whole lot of opportunities to flourish.
Don't believe me?check it out for yourself.
1.Opportunity to perform:-It provides a great platform for the domestic cricketers to perform well, attain some form and finally grab attention from selectors of their respective countries. From last two seasons it's been seen that performance of the players in I.P.L is often viewed, as an yard stick while selecting the players, for national teams at least that's what is being followed in India. And it also boosts up the confidence levels, of players when playing, in front of millions of crazy fans who cheer you, for every ball hit and every wicket taken.
2.Opportunity to make money:-I.P.L gives a lot of opportunities to make huge money not only by taking part in it directly but also through indirect means like advertisements and making contracts with the brands.Once you are a hit, in I.P.L, opportunities flow you way.And this is what it's been criticized for.The players are more than happy to play, in I.P.L and finding it hard, to fulfill their national commitments.I personally feel, surely national interests come first, but if you are free from your prior commitments, then there's nothing wrong in making money and improve one's talents.
3.Opportunity to mingle:-It gives a great opportunity, for the players to interact with each other, understand, and share their cultures. It becomes so very essential, in these days where winning by any means seem to be the only concern for players and quite often you tend to see players indulging in shameful acts of exchanging words with the fellow players, to resorting to physical attacks, on their teammates which all call for setting up of a congenial environment, where cricket is played in true spirit and the players, as it's good-will ambassadors.I.P.L, to certain extent helps players to know and appreciate their cultural differences, and concentrate not on winning but on achieving excellence in the game of cricket.
4.Opportunity to learn:-I.P.L. gives great opportunity to sharpen their skills, to learn new tactics, game strategies, return to form and to rediscover themselves at large. On the whole, it's a win and win situation, where there is nothing to lose.
So, eagerly waiting for the game to hit the ground, with fantastic music playing around, wonderful dance moves, performed by the cheerleaders and above all breadth-taking moments in the game all reminds me of an advertisement which says-Life is calling, where are you?
