Mother and Motherland
'Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi' - We all know this is Shloka that Ram spoke in Ramayana. I am surprised to note it can become the national motto of Nepal but we Indians are shy of accepting it. I don't think I need to explain what it means when Ram spoke it in front of Lakshman his younger brother telling him about importance of women and motherland. What he meant was people praised about golden Lanka but for him Lanka had no importance but his mother and motherland had far greater importance than anything else on earth or even the heaven itself.
Daughter is a liability
We have been accepting the fact on paper for generations that woman is respectable but not in real life. In real life daughters are considered nothing but an unnecessary liability. There was a time when most daughters were killed as soon as they were born and when the technique of sex determination came into existence it was nothing less than a sure way of killing girls in the womb itself. Now, we have limited ourselves to one child theory and if it’s only one child it has got to be a boy. And this is not limited to higher classes but even the rural classes have adapted to this theory very well. The problem in India has taken such an ugly shape that the society or the government is unable to find a solution for this complicated issue.
Daughter is important
Actually we shall have to treat our daughters as important part of the society and not as equals or at par with boys which has created the whole problem. In my views ever since and most probably just after the independence the theory of equality has been created and that is the main cause of deteriorating social condition of girls and it became progressively worse as the time passed. But it was not the same in earlier period when women were given a special status as a mother she was considered a creator and was treated with special respect compared to her man counterpart. The fight for the equality for women by the so-called women social workers has deprived women from their special status hence the insecurity in men and all these rape cases and atrocities.
Special status to woman
The women were far better off with their special status of creator and was more respected in the society. The need is to give woman her special status back; she was special and should remain special. Nature has made the woman special and she should be treated that way. The society should come immediately forward with all responsibilities for her education, security, health care and due respect the infant or death in womb will stop immediately. We should stop beating in the bush trying to find a solution in debates but the time has come we acted positively and see to that no more girls killed prematurely.
The time has come
Yes the time has come to act, let the daughters live and live in style. They should be given a special status and our governments should see to this that they get all facilities. We should have special programs keeping our daughters in the center of them. We should implement stiff punishments for people who are found breaking the rules against women. I would like to see all states raising the slogan and implementing – save daughters, educate them properly. Let our society come forward and adapt the mission whole heartedly.
Daughters should be our proud
I remember seeing a poster in the beginning of this century that had a very touching slogan written on it that will read- I wish to touch the sky if I get a little bit of your trust, with a girl looking at the sky. This is only possible when our mothers will have a trust that if they gave birth to girl child their daughters will be safe and live happily on this earth and will be allowed to touch the sky. I am basically from the land where Kalpana Chawala was born, the first Indian astronaut and the first woman from India in space so I know women has capability to as good as or even better than a man. I trust a man it’s a man’s duty to protect women so if we can induct the feeling in men to safeguard women from all evil our daughters will be better off but for that we shall have to teach our boys to behave properly and respect their sisters.
Conclusion- Let’s give respect to all women and we should feel proud if daughters get birth in our homes. I am not aware how you feel in this matter but as far I am concerned I am a proud father of my only child a daughter of course.
