Animals groups
Animals that live in a group have leader. The leader protects the group cows, buffaloes, horses, elephants, wildebeests, zebra and deer are some animals that live in groups. Each group is called a herd.
In an elephant herd, 10 or more female elephants and their calves live together. The oldest female in the herd leads the group. She takes decisions and the other follow. She also protects the other herd members from enemies. The male elephant lives with the group for some years and then moves away.
A group of lions and tigers is called a pride. A pride consists of two or more adults’ lions, several lionesses and their cubs.
All animals’ babies enjoy playing. Pups and kittens often have a friendly fight. Sometimes they roll over or pull and push each other. Babies of wild animals also play with one another.
Some animals are friendly by nature. If you give them food, they will immediately come forward to eat it. Pigeons, cows and dogs are generally friendly by nature. Farm animals like pigs, goats, hens and ducks are also friendly animals. They are not afraid of people. They move around the farm freely. Dolphins are friendly sea creatures.
The different designs on an animal’s skin are due to the presence of different colored hairs. The leopard has spots on its body. Tigers have a striped coat. This helps them to hide in the bushes while chasing their prey.
There a big pond full of water with various types of retiles.
Swimming majestically were a few snow- white ducks. On the other side of the pond, there were other birds of various types. Covered by a wire gauze ceiling, the birds could not fly away as they had plenty of free area at their disposal to fly about with in the bounds of the little garden. With an improvised lake below and a number of trees around, the birds were joyful and chirped about merrily. They had different colors and varieties. There parrots, not only the usual green with red beak but also white ones with blue beaks. There were sparrows, in multi color deigns. Also there were swans, cranes, peacocks and other birds, big and small. It was interesting to see this family of birds which have been collected other countries, too.
In one cage we saw an old couple behaving very much like human beings. The ` he’ monkey would say some thing to the `she’ monkey, in this own language and `she’ monkey nodded like a human being as if in response to his question. The monkeys were mostly moving about doing one thing or the other and never sitting tight or idle. Some children tried to tease them but were frowned at.
The next section that we visited was of the lions the tigers, the panthers, the bear’s elephants and others like them.
