Animals are also part of our nature. They are also a form of natural Resource to us. We get milk and other dairy products from animals. Similarly for many other reasons we tame some animals. We know that such animals are called as domestic animals.
Cows and buffaloes are called `milch-cattle’. We get milk from them. Sheep and goats are reared for their meat as well as for wool. We have a sheep breeding centre at Hissar. Bullocks and buffaloes are used in farming. Dung of the animals is used as manure.
Donkeys, camels, horses are called `beasts of burden’. They carry our loads. We know that camel is called the `ship of the desert’. It is very useful in travailing across the desert.
We find many animals in the forest such as lion, tiger, bear, elephant, deer, fox, and monkey. We call them `wild animals’.
There are lions in the Gir forest in Gujarat. Tigers are found in the thick forests of India. Leopard, for, wolf, bear, and wild boar, etc. are found in elephants in more in the south and north-east India. Richinoceroses are found in Assam and west Bengal. Bison are found in central and south India. Mask deer is found only in the Himalayas. There are many types of deer in our country. Tiger is the National animal of our country.
Elephants are tamed by some people. They help us in carrying loads and for riding in the jungle. Their tusks are very expensive. Many beautiful decorative thing are made out of it.
Many animals are disappearing at an alarming speed in the recent times. Losing they been killing by hunting people. So our government has taken up some projects to protect wild animals as well as forests. Government has declared some forests as `reserved forests’ where hunting animals is prohibited. It has also taken up projects like `project Tiger’. Due to various reasons the population of tigers came down to a small number. Now, with the help of `Project Tiger’ the population of tigers has increased.
It is our duty to protect animals.
