1) M.S. Swaminathan is known as father of economic ecology. It is because of this eminent scientist that India has increased its food production from 50 million tonnes in 1950 to over 200 millions tonnes and has become self sufficient in food for over one billion people.
2) Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam is ex president of India. India, the `missile man’ as he is suffered to, headed India’s missile and rocked programs which produced the missiles Agni and Prithvi.
3) `Father of Indian nuclear science’, as he referred to, Dr. Bhabha is the founder of Bhabha atomic Research center at Tromby, near Mumbai. He started the atomic energy Program in India and set up several nuclear power stations.
4) Sir C.V. Raman was a physicist whose research on the scattering of light led to the discovery of the phenomenon that bears his name- the Raman Effect. He as awarded the noble prize in 1930 for his discovery. He once remarked `science is my religion and I intend to preserve it’.
5) The India system of medicine has been practiced for several centuries. Dhanvantri was the foremost among the great persons and the father of Ayurveda or the Indian system of medicine. Sushruta wrote a book called the `Sushruta Samhita’, based on the teachings of Dhanvantri and his own experience.
6) Another great person in the field of medicine was Charaka who wrote a book called `Charaka Samhita’, where he discussed various herbs that heal. His teachings are being followed to this day. Medical students take an oath after completing their studies that they will never betray their patients, even at the cost of their own lives.
