The holy feet of India
Kanyakumari temple is one of the famous temples in India.
Kanyakumari is at the bottom of India. There the land ends and the sea lies in the front. The height Himalayas head of the crown to mother India, then Kanyakumari town is her holy feet.
There is an old temple very near to the seashore.
There stands a praying statue of goddess. She stands facing the Bay of Bengal. This goddess is known as Kanyakumari. The place is also called Kanyakumari in honor of this goddess.
At Kanyakumari, you can also see an old church and Gandhi Mandap. About five hundred meters to the south there is a big rock lying in the Indian Ocean. It is called Vivekananda Rock. Swami Vivekananda was a saint who lived in the nineteenth century. Swami Vivekananda, before he started teaching Indian Philosophy, visited Kanyakumari as a pilgrim. He saw the Rock, swam across the sea, sat on the rock and meditated. Now this rock is known all over India and other countries. Thousands of people visit the Rock. They cross the sea in a boat.
Kanyakumari is beautiful spot. It is surrounded by sea on three sides. There is the India Ocean stretching out in the south. To the east lies the Bay of Bengal and to the west lies the Arabian Sea. The sea around Kanyakumari is generally calm. Many people come to this spot to see the sunrise and the sunset. On some particular days you can see here the sitting sun and the rising moon at the same time!
You can see sand and shells of different colors and shapes on the beach at Kanyakumari. In some places the sand looks very much like rice in shape and size!
Kanyakumari is one of the most interesting places in our country. This holy foot of our mother country is worth visiting.
