There is no shortcut to success
The one who choose shortcuts for success comes down faster than he reached there at the top because that was only a short-lived unplanned, no-goals success. Only a proper way with right set-goals can take us to our destination in the end, which gives us satisfaction and we can stay there without a feeling of guilty consciousness.
Although, we are fortunate enough to follow ideas, different ideologies or thoughts of great people we have or had in our society. For instance, most people find Mahatma Gandhi as their most ideal person and rightly so as he is close to hearts of most of our fellow fellow citizens. This probably is truer in case of newer generation who find his ideology cool … amazing although, some of his principals are almost impossible to follow or concepts difficult to implement but Mahatma Gandhi is still in demand of most people who are looking for a shortcut in to politics. Mahatma Gandhi seems like a surefire way, a learning license for a new driver down the parliamentary road. These people using him as identity card to show on the gate of parliament, some of them are doing it for some time now while some others are in the process of doing so. His hard work not a consideration but his achievements more alluring, no one seems to take his efforts into consideration, Mahatma never needed a ‘Gandhi cap’ to become a true leader but he did it through his sheer will to sacrifice and nothing but selfless service for the downtrodden as sole purpose.
The new generation with many upcoming leaders is smart enough who does it in a well planned way, the simplest way to politics seems to through Gandhi’s ways of works like fasting, law-breaking, sit on time bound or unlimited hunger strikes but they have not set goals apart from one point program insight ‘the chair’. Now, how many of such self-styled leaders who appear while the election time around wearing khadi, a Gandhi cap think about the way Gandhi used to or the way he believed in self-work. The way the new generation entering into politics, makes it more look like a launch of a new business than a way to serve the nation or public in general. Hat is not the way one can reach to the top unless you are part of the system or from highly established political clan. This is not easy to emulate Gandhi who did nothing for his self-interest, he never wanted any thing in thing in return, he set a difficult goal for himself and never looked back with nothing to loose but every thing to gain. He had nothing which could be described his asset apart from his will and no one was strong enough to take it away from him. He was true Mahatma.
This world has been a combination in between two class poles apart, one with all the money in the world and the other with nothing to eat or shelter although a middle class exists in between these two but that has too confused a status neither here nor there. The way concrete jungles are taking over actual jungles and fields, which are disappearing from the scene to make poor people of this country still poorer. This is most easy to deliver a lecture for the benefit of poor people’s sake but how many of such leaders have target to uplift them to provide them meals and shelter. How many of these so-called leaders have plans for education for the urban poor or their livelihood? They have nothing but words, which come out non-stop at amazingly fast pace without having any real meaning that matters.
Politics is all about a policy that works in a systematic way for the poorest of the country with no differences between different casts, creeds or religion that was the basic of our constitution. When we had that in mind at the time of constitutional- rights setting stage, now meaning of every constitution has been turned to a certain direction that leads to vote-bank only. The need to spiritualize politics, as Gandhi used to think is more apt in prevailing situation when the need of the hour is to look at the people at the lowest ladder of the society without considering his cast or religion and this should be done without wasting another day as we are already too behind the schedule. This is demand of the occasion to do it before the common people revolt to change the system that may lead to further chaos.
Let us discuss the most disputed yet his best arm against violence ‘offer your left cheek if some one hit you on the right one’ for the present generation this is perhaps the most difficult job when the trend seems to be ‘the mud slinging’ this seems to be the prime job of politicians today, attack and counter attack. If some one hits some one on one cheek the natural reaction is to hit him back with double force on both cheeks and better still finish at least one of his generations to teach him a proper lesson. But, where is the end of such verbal fights and physical feuds? But that is what going on in full view of common people of this country where leaders or powers those be have crossed every limit, and the worst part of the story is that no one is ashamed right from top to bottom.
Although, this is an undisputed fact that if a person can follow Gandhi in true sense there is no way any one can hit him on even his one cheek or accuse him for any thing wrong but the only condition that’s what required to obtain that status is true values of Gandhi. This seems a difficult proposition in today’s conditions, as we want instant gains with immediate opinions. Shortcuts are no solutions and the way we are acting in the name of Gandhi looks more like a threat in place of doing any good for the cause of common public of this country. That is taking advantage of mob psychology only. People simply taking shelter behind Gandhi committing violence in the name of Gandhi but every thing is fair as long as they are doing it in the name of Gandhi. Gandhi is in fashion among the new crop of self-styled leaders more than ever before. They have an open license to kill innocent emotions of unsuspecting public, which influenced easily in the name of Gandhi. Gandhi in fact is grossly misused today. He has been shot almost six decades before. Just think about it please and give it a serious thought before murdering him allover again - on daily basis.
Her childhood was deprived of family love
Indira Gandhi known as the iron lady of India was born on November 19, 1917 in Allahabad at Anand Bhavan, her ancestral house to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and his wife Kamla Nehru. In 1919 when Mohandas Gandhi first visited her house he encouraged her parents to take part in the freedom struggle of the country. She was just a four year old girl when her father was first jailed in their fight for the country’s freedom from the British. As a result Indira had to be sent to boarding school and as the father and daughter were away from each other they used to communicate through letters. They used to communicate through letters as they were the best means of communication at that time. Nehru has written the letters to his ten year old daughter from the Dehradun prison during the year 1933. Apart from personal things Nehru’s letters were full of knowledge as they talked about the Aryans, the epics like Mahabharata and politics. He played an important role in Indira Gandhi’s life as a good teacher, a guide and a philosopher. The letters were later published in some books.
Education- Schools and Colleges she went to
She did her pre-schooling in Delhi from the Modern School. She studied in many schools in India and Europe during her primary education. Indira Nehru had to move to a boarding school as her father was a freedom fighter and went in and out of jail frequently. She was very happy to be in the school where she took part in various curricular activities and was appointed the minister of student parliament of the school. She didn't believe in getting high scores in her academics but well balanced her academics and curricular. She was good in language from her early days and even worked as the editor for her school magazine. She was said to be a shy and reserved girl during her school days yet had a personality that was pleasing. After finishing her metric education from Bombay University, Indira Nehru took admission in Shantiniketan in Bengal in the year 1934. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru wanted to send her daughter to Switzerland for studies but couldn’t as he could not focus on it due to his deep indulgence in politics. However he gave freedom of choice to the young Indira Nehru to select her subjects. Nehru had great thinking and believed it was not right to not let girls have choices of their own and keep them captive in the four walls of the houses. He was a firm believer of women empowerment. Due to her mother Kamla Nehru’s ill health she joined the college late. She lived with three four girls in the hostel room provided to her as Nehru didn’t want her daughter to be provided and special treatment. She soon adapted to the college environment easily.
In the year 1936 she took admission in the Somerville College at the University of Oxford in United Kingdom but could not clear her entrance as she was devastated by her mother’s death due to tuberculosis. She moved to England and studied for a few months at the Badminton School in Bristol before finally clearing the admission entrance test at the Oxford University in the year 1937. However due to prolonged ill-health she was unable to complete her studies at Oxford University and had to return to India in the year 1941. She was good in subjects like political science, history and economics but had to struggle in the language subject of Latin. Years later the University of Oxford conferred her with an honorary degree and she was also selected as an Oxasian a title for illustrious Asian graduates.
Marriage and kids
Indira Nehru had known Feroze Gandhi since her school days. During her stay in UK she used to meet Feroze Gandhi regularly who too was there studying in the London School of Economics. Feroze Gandhi was close to Indira’s mother and had stood by her side all through her mother’s illness. Indira Gandhi loved her mother a lot and was very close to her. She married Feroze Gandhi on 26 March 1942. As they both belonged to different castes their marriage was objected by their family members. But they had decided to marry each other going against their family’s wishes. He belonged to a Parsi family. Their marriage cards were printed in Hindi, Roman and Urdu and were married according to the Parsi customs. Soon after the marriage the couple was sent to jail for the first time on the charges of subversion by the British from September 11, 1942 to may 13, 1943 at the Naini Central Jail in Allahabad. In the year 1947 India became independent from the British rule and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was appointed as the first prime minister of independent India.
The couple had two sons Rahul Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi after their marriage. Though the couple had a home at Allahabad Indira became occupied due to her assistance to her father who was then the Prime Minister of India. She had to stay with her father at his Teen Murti house in Delhi to assist him in his endeavors. And both her sons too stayed with her during this time. Being too busy in politics she could not spend much time with her family. As a result of her political life she had to be in Delhi most of the times away from her husband who stayed at Allahabad and worked in the newspaper called The Herald as the managing director and later on became the first chairman of the Indian Oil Corporation. As a result distances grew up between Feroze Gandhi and her who had to be out of home most of the times. At the time when Feroze Gandhi had the first heart attack in 1958 she was out to Bhutan for a visit. After returning she stayed with Feroze Gandhi in Kashmir for some time to look after him. Later in the year Feroze Gandhi passed away after suffering a second heart attack at the Willingdon Hospital in New Delhi where he was being treated. Indira Gandhi always acknowledged her husband Feroze Gandhi’s presence in her life. He had stood with her in the most difficult times of her life.
Besides being the prime minister she used to take out time to take care of preparations before the arrival of the guests of the country. She used to look after the setups in the house prior to any dignitary’s arrival. She was a good host and took great care of her guests. She was a strong woman who had to face many tough situations in life. She had confidence that her younger son Sanjay Gandhi would be a good face in the Indian politics but his sudden death in a plane crash in the year 1980 somewhat disturbed her internally. Sanjay left behind his wife Menaka Gnadhi and son Varun Gandhi. After his death she encouraged her elder son Rajeev Gandhi to take Sanjay’s place. On her mother’s persuasion he agreed and later was elected as a member of the parliament from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in February 1981. He assisted his mother from then onwards. He then went on to become the president of the Youth congress. Many saw this move as Indira Gnadhi’s efforts to make Rajeev Gandhi an efficient candidate for the Prime Minister’s post. Rajeev Gandhi was married to Sonia Gandhi who belonged to Italy. It is said that Indira was not happy with her son’s decision to marry an Italian girl. Rajeev Gandhi was killed in a suicide bomb attack in the year 1921 on May 21. Rajeev had two children named Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi is married to Robert Vadra who is a business man and Rahul Gandhi is at present one of the most eligible bachelors in the country.
As the leader of the biggest Democracy in the world
Indira Gandhi's political career started as a child when she was just twelve years old. She became the leader of the Monkey Brigade that comprised of children and who worked for the India’s freedom movement. In 1955 when Congress party needed a leader for Indian congress committee’s executive body, Indira Gandhi’s name was pondered upon. In July 1958 Pandit when U. N. Dhebar retired from the post of the President of the Congress party he suggested some names to Pandit Nehru for the leadership. It is said the Indira was one of the suggestions he gave to Nehru. She was made the President of the Congress party on the 8th of February 1959 and remained on the post till January 1960. After Pandit Nehru became the prime minister she acted as a hostess and supporter to him and assisted him in his political life. She was appointed as the chairman of the Central social welfare board from 1953 to 1957. Later in the year 1956 she was appointed as the president f the all India youth congress and served at the post till the year 1960.
In 1964 after her father’s death she was elected for the first time to the parliament as minister of Information and Broadcasting under Lal Bahadur Shastri’s government. She became the first woman prime minister of India after the then prime minister Pandit Lal Bahadur Shashtri in the year 1966. She displayed immense courage and leadership during the 1971 war between India and East Pakistan. India won and Bangladesh was formed due to her clever steps and she was praised all over for leading the country efficiently. Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee even addressed her as the goddess Durga for her courage. The win in the war was followed by the Indian Army Pokharan Test Range, a nuclear test at the desert village Pokharan in Rajasthan. This spoke of her strengths and her interests in the National Security issues. She encouraged and helped in the flourishing of the Green Revolution in India.
During the year 1969 she took a big step to develop the country’s economic sector and nationalized fourteen major banks in the country.
She had an enormous win in the 1971 general elections but she was accused for violating the laws of election. A high court in 1975 accused her on charges of infraction. Due to this disturbance and others in the country she requested the president to declare a state of emergency in the country and postpone the elections. This deterred her public image and lead to her party’s defeat in the 1977 elections. There were splits in her party and corruption emerged within. In the year 1978 she joined the parliament again and the following year that is 1979 once again emerged as the Prime Minister. In efforts to prove India’s non alliance in the global world she made visits to the U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. and several other countries.
During the 1980s India saw internal riots when the Sikhs demanded a separate state. Indira Gandhi in a move to suppress the Sikh Separatist movement ordered some seventy thousand soldiers inside the Golden temple in Amritsar where a campaign by the Sikhs was going on. There were reports of more than four hundred people being killed during the operation. This step that she took to curb a movement that could have lead to the country’s division unfortunately lead to a nationwide outrage against her from the Sikh community in the country. Sadly it further lead to her assassination by her own trusted Sikh bodyguards at her residence in Delhi on October 31, 1984. In her last speech on the October 30, 1984 in Bhuvneshwar probably sensing her end near, she had said that she is not worried if she remains alive or dead as she has lived long. She remarked that she has long served the people of her country and her every drop of blood that will fall on the ground will awaken her country and give the country strength. She expressed her faith in her country’s women and the young of the nation and will efficiently take the responsibility of their motherland on their shoulders. She will always be remembered as one of the greatest political leaders of India. On her 28th death anniversary let us remember one of the most influential leaders of the largest democracy in the world. She was an iron lady in the true spirit indeed.
"I will change the world"-so said the white clothed man not white(pure) by heart although. India is one of the most renowned countries of the world where the great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose were born. I recently watched a great Hollywood film "The Great Debaters" and i was astonished to find out that how greatly the movie was influenced on thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. Not only this , there are many foreign language movies which are influenced by great personalities of India.
It has been 66 years since independence and we have had a thousands of politicians. If those politicians had exercised their power rightly then our country would have been very ahead of where it is now at present. I feel very sorry to proclaim that now a days politicians could not maintain the dignity and the path set down by the great national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. Every year elections are conducted by the government in various parts of India. A number of emotional and sentimental topics are picked up by the politicians to lure the public to vote them into power. The promises however are soon forgotten. I guess the 'selfishness' takes over the 'selflessness'. i would like to quote an instance. Some months before there were elections in the area i live in Chandigarh. There was one very elderly lady candidate who by her innocent looks convinced my family to support her for the elections.I did my best to promote her as a candidate and she finally won,But i was very disappointed to find out that even after several months of having won the elections she did not show up and did not even try to resolve our issues.
Every year only a few hundreds of Indians who pass their civil cervices exam and become an IAS officer. When they complete their training at Mussoorie, many of them have tears in their eyes with a firm resolve to improve their country. But soon they become carried away by the trend of corruption. If only one person who has a firm resolve of making their country a better place and does not get carried away by his success and conventional trends the world would become a much better place. We should remember that "A spark can ignite a Fire".
Introduction
Of late India's thirteenth Presisident Pranab Mukherjee elected on 22 July ,2012 took oath on 25th July 2012 after retirement of first woman President Prativa Devi Singh Patil. Who doesnot have a dream to abide in in the Rashtrapati Bhawan (President's Abode) with the halt palaces like Chharabra,Shimla or Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad as retreats ?
Do you know that this dreamland can be kept away from him if removed. This may be unbelievable but is true that President of India can resign or be removed from his post in following curcumstances in ccordace with procedure explained hereafter.
Removal of President
We are all aware that the term of President is five years from the time of his taking oath. He will resume his duties until new President is elected according to Article No 56.
There are three reasons that may end the term before completing five years. He may resign the post. Death may cause an end to his tenure. Third is the Impeachment. In Article No 61 , the term Impeachment is explained. The resolution for impeachment may be moved in either Loksabha or Rajyasabha .This resolution must be notified before the date on which the President will be given notice by one fourth of the members of House. It must be approved by the two-third majority of the members present and voting to pass it over to the other House who will act as investigating team .After interrogation is over on the allegarions of violation of Constitutional provisions (Article 61),this House will go through process of casting votes on the resolution. .During this process ,the President gets opportunity to present his defence against the resolution impaching him. He may defend himself by sending representative. No President of India has faced Impeavchmenmt so far. So,this provision has never been used.
Accession
If the post of the President of India is vacanted on his death, resignation or impeachment, the vice President will assime charge of President until a new President is elected.
The Chief-Justice ,or in his absence ,the senior most Judge of the Supreme Court of India takes the charge of President till election of President or Vice President whichever is earlie. The provision for the vacancy due to the death of both the President and the Vice-President was not there in the Indian Constitution. This was included in 1969.
What is this BAND and who is benefited?
Thursday the May31saw, another big band allover the country called by opposition against the present government to show their protest related to price rise of petrol in particular and inflation in general. However, the million-dollar question that comes to mind immediately is weather we achieve any positive results out of such Bands or strikes which make the life of public so difficult that this is simply beyond words to describe these acts. What I feel is that the bands mainly go against the public, which they claim to benefit the cause of poor. That poor is the one most hit by such strikes in the end, this band deprives him of his wages for the day. The most benefited party is the political groups that organizes such strikes and behave so shamelessly and against the rules on the roads. These strikes should not take place in the public interests in future and banned immediately by the appropriate authorities. This is not the proper way to protest and show your disagreement. The BAND should be banned with immediate effect.
Life of public is paralyzed
The strike organized by non-UPA parties more or less had its impact almost in every part of India including states where UPA lead governments are in power although not as seriously. In most parts of the country, activist stopped trains in different parts of the country, buses destroyed and private vehicles stopped from plying on the roads. Almost everywhere, the agitators tried to keep the markets and other institutes closed. Taxi and auto services were parts of strike; in fact, they stopped every public utility services including banking, government related and educational to make their agitation look like complete success. They succeeded in their mission up to some extent but at the cost of poor people, who suffered most.
These are use less for common people.
Fact is only poor faces the impact
That is true, these agitations said to be carried out for the welfare of poor people but the bitter fact is that these poor are the main victims of such agitations. Another truth is that the petrol users for whom the agitation was proposed were least effected and the diesel and CNG users were most effected people because petrol users were cooling their heels sitting back home while taxi, bus and auto run by diesel and CNG were off the road for wrong reasons.
Only laborers and poor face the music
This does not make much of a difference to people who can afford to stay back home for the duration of agitation and enjoy it like a holiday but the poor who has to his bread every day has to make compromise with his stomach for the day. Another fact is that nothing stops for the influential ones even during agitations and while every thing is closed as it appeared practically. But was it closed for most of the resourceful people? Perhaps not, because internet makes them enable to make transactions online and keep working online.
BAND has no more impact
Apart from gaining advantage, weight and showing others their political importance there is nothing much, they gain out of these undisciplined acts. The organizers of these strikes must admit it that they do it for their own gain, which carries very little advantage for public who they claim to be their main aim of such BANDS. People with online facilities were busy purchasing shares, tickets for traveling, dealing with customers, addressing their clients, dealing with their customers and chatting and talking with friends online. So the strike had no impact on them but the worst effected was the poor of this country.
Look at the figures
RS-15000, 00000000- yes, this is the official figure we have lost due to that agitation that took place on May31, I shall not dilute the impact by writing this figure in billions because it would not look as big then. There is much more in this, which we shall never be able to account for. How would you calculate the billions of hours of manpower that has been wasted, how would you calculate the revenue that was never generated due to closure of business and how would you calculate the losses incurred due to services cancelled.
Do you know?
There were more than fifteen thousands business organizations who participated in this strike and more than five hundred million business establishments allover the country kept their shutters down. Now this is up to you calculate direct and indirect taxes those could be generated during the day. True, some of them would be carried forwarded and shall be account for but the losses incurred due to loss of work force is not retraceable. The loss of destroyed vehicles would never be recovered; the losses incurred due to sabotage to public property would never be recovered. Now the question is what happened to the law that enabled government to recover the losses from the erring parties. Would they dare to take such a step?
What did you get at the end of the day?
They started with a slogan that nothing lesser than a complete rollback would be acceptable as far as the cost of petrol was concerned and the only point of agitation initially but later the point of inflation was added in the agenda to make it look it more impressive. There was an emergency meeting of oil companies to discuss and find out a solution and they though a deduction of rupees 1.60 would be appropriate to give relief to consumers but they also reached to the conclusion that there is a need to hike the prices of diesel and CNG to compensate and look prices more rational. This certainly is enough ground for another agitation in making and shaking the nation allover again.
The conclusion of my effort says that they should not repeat such agitations or BANDS, which have no use for the public in general but in the interest of political benefits for the parties in power and opposition only. As you can see even the parties, which are part of government from out side or openly were part of the agitation and were part of the naked show of making things look ugly.
