My Favourite National Hero - "Chacha Neharu"
I respect and love all nationals Heroes. But Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is my favourite. He is widely respected
within All over India and also Abroad. He was born at Allahabad on 14th November 1889.
Jawaharlal Nehru was born in the rich and highly educated family of the Nehrus. He had everything one
could wish for. He had the best education at India and in England. After returning from England, he came
under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi. That was the turning point in his life. He decided to dedicate his entire
life to the selfless service of his beloved motherland. He struggled hard for the freedom of India and was
imprisoned several times. Mahatma Gandhi always turned to him for advice. He proudly called Jawaharlal
his political heir. He knew very well that the country would be safe in his hands.
After independence, Jawaharlal Nehru become the first prime Minister of free India. He remained the Prime
Minister of India for 17 long years (1947-1966).During his premiership,India advanced industrially and
agriculturally. He was recognised as a world leader. He worked for world peace. His vision was that of
liberation from the clutches of poverty , ignorance , welfare, education, development of children and
superstitions.
He wrote a number of books ,such as "The discovery of India" , "His Autobiography" ,
"Glimpses of world History" and "Towards Freedom". he also awarded with "Bharat Ratna" in 1955. Nehru
married on 7th Feb. 1916 with Kamala Kaul, that time he was only seventeen year old. In the first year of
marriage, Kamala gave birth to their child, "Indira". His daughter "Indira Gandhi" and grandson "Rajiv Gandhi"
also served as Prime Ministers of India.
Nehru was extremely fond of children , he saw them as the future leaders of the Nation. Children called
him "Chacha Nehru" by affection. They simply loved and adored him. So, his birthday,November 14th is
celebrated as Children's day. Nehru was, also, very fond of Nature.Rose is his favourite flower and a symbol
of love which he always wore on his coat.
In his death(1864), India lost a leader of rare merits.
