Statistical Analysis:
Just analyse the result in detail. There are only 2 parameters in which Indian democracy is lagging behind and those are:
political participation : 5.56
political culture :5.63
And the sole reason for this is the diversity of India. Is there any country in the world with 18 national languages, 1800 dialects and culture (cuisines, clothing, traditions) changing every 200 KM?The whole Europe is less than half a size of India and they have so many small countires in that area.Just imagine making Europe a single country with a single democratic government. Then you will see, how bad political culture will develop in Europe. There will be vote banks, political rivalries over languages, regions, cultures and everything (just as we have witnessed in 2 world wars).Looking at this, I will say that India is really the best democracy which is handling so much of diversity without breaking the country into pieces.Nothing in this world is perfect! its upto us to make it! we are atleast far more luckier then our neighbours on each side have had failed democarcy and coups on more then one occasion!more then flawed i would say india is a young democracy.Imagine where USA was after 60 years of independence! that nation was still burning in the flames of civil war till 100 years after the declaration of phelidelphia!
India-a flawed democracy:
India is a flawed democracy, no doubt about that.Considering the seer number of languages, ethnicity, cultures, over and above the extra large population, it is a wonder that India is a functioning democracy. It must be applauded for the achievement. However its flaws lies in places where the foreigners do not look. The flaw lies in its pampering of the minorities at the cost of the majority. We may have to tolerate corruption and violence everyday but at least we have the freedom to freely criticize the perpetrators even though they don't stop doing that. And thanks to the media, atleast some politicians in high office are now held accountable for their actions.
A successful democratic political culture implies that the losing parties and their supporters accept the judgment of the voters, and allow for the peaceful transfer of power. This is again due to diversity. If the party loses an election just on the basis of policies, it will always accept the judgement of the voters with grace. But due to diversity of India, the loss of a political party is not just considered the defeat of its governing policies but also the defeat of the language, culture, region, religion, caste to which it is associated with. In such a scenario, accepting defeat is not easy.India is like a joint family and all these are the ills associated witb a joint family as compared to Europian countries which are like nuclear families. But still, India has the advantages of joint family too.Either we should accept that India is a good democracy or else if we think that India is a flawed democracy, then the only solution to it is nuclearisation of the Indian joint family. (i.e. breaking the country into several small countries on the lines of Europe. then each of the new country will have a very good full democracy)
Problems:
Sort the religious problems out and you will see a totally different government emerge. But as long as we have the muslim population destroying our political system and our religious system and demanding minority rights when there is a mosque everywhere there is a temple, then there is no democracy. We are the only country which is working more or less successfully as a joint family. There is no other country in the world like this. We can proudly say that we the best in the world in tolerance. But if still, some people think that our democracy is flawed as compared to those who are functioning in a nuclear family, then its the nuclearisation which can solve the problem.
Atleast for five years (elcted period), elected representatives are just freed from his/her electorates. There is no law/contraint that makes him boud to obey decision of people elected him.The situation is similarly pathetic in every countries.Even in US, though majority was opposing iraq war now, Bush/b were acting as oper their own sweet will. They are free to do so everywhere.secondly, indian parliament does not represent majority of indians.see how many guys are there from economically backward classes,it is merely a representative body of upper class-pper middle class-landlords, industrialists.
Though democracy is the best available option for us to follow, we unfortunately are faced with some grave shortcomings in its implimentation and framing. to list a few:
1)India's democracy is enjoyed by a certain class and for the rest, it is aking to a dictatorship (as stated by sucheta).
2)Constitution of our country is having some loopholes which allows the politicians to tap votes in the name of religion. untill we fix these loopholes, democracy and secularism cannot really go hand in hand in india.
3)curruption has dettered the lower class people of india from enjoying the fruits of democracy. There are people who are not even allowed to cast there votes or are forcibly made to vote for someone.
Democracy is the only destiny of the world.
The new establishment of democratic governments in the present world are the live example of the sucess of Democracy. In india congress is doing every thing to kill democracy. The way and path thay have choosen will definetly cause loss to Democratic in India. But is an unfortunate thing is they are phosing that they are the only people who gaurd democracy. The recent statement in US by our PM is an example of their acting.I may belive i them if they call these statements during the time of Bihar assembly desolved state or Jharkand conflict or Governors Changing. There is no end for their ill things.
Democracy is never successful in just 61 years. It is an evolving process which takes at least a 100 years.Democracy is now the assumed, perfect system of government. But if so, why are we still so behind than other democratic nations?I think that the main reason why democracy doesn't seem to work in India is that India is a land of disarray or disunity. All this disarray is due to the crippling perversion of our ancsestors called-
caste-system,And when it comes to religions, we are 'born with prejudices'.We think our religion is the best simply because we were born in it.Christians are branded with the term 'evangelists' And Muslims with the term 'over-zealous chauvinists'And so on.And it is this gullible and unworthy people {majority} who are given the 'right to vote'.They are also partly resonsible for converting a 'statesman' into a 'politician'.Result- Thousands of mini-Hitlers, who know nothing but squeezing the common people. And sometimes heinous acts like the Godhra or Khairlanji massacre, aimed for pleasing their respective voting groups. We can't simply go on blaming the politicians,They didnt {atleast directly}kill the people, or rape the women, or burn thier houses.it was the common mass,Our minds are misguided to the point of perversion, and further,
we give no resistance to this.We brag about our unity during Cricket matches, but is that really something to brag about?
In the so called secular country like India where even after 55 years of Independance some people get advantages only cause of their caste and religion, where law changes from religion to religion, where any damn lady can stop the 1000Crore project of dam development, where animals( dogs ) are more important than people.I think democracy has damaged the past, present and the future of this nation. The only option is a visionary leader a positive dectator.Socialism leads to the state being the only powerful institution and consequently powerful bureaucrats become the kings. Things get done on the basis who knows whom and the top bureaucrats become the aristocracy withh every segment of the society at their mercy. If everyone is state employee how many will have the courage to take on the government.
No private property ==> a state of semi slavery. Dictatorship leads to catastrophs and communism or communalism wont suit Indian people.Democracy is the best option and it is the permanent solution for any country. But the way they(politicians) handle in India is pathetic!! At this present situation i may say this only!but if a new set of politicians and government officers who are true to their heart and do their duties in a right manner, I can say Democracy has won.well we have a parliamentary form of government, a vibrant electorate. what the survey doesnt take into consideration is the multi ethnicity of India. Denmark, Sweden and all arent in any way close to being as mutli ethnic as India.Infact Some of my Danish freinds were really amazed at this aspect of India.
Another Independence Day has dawned on us and we have made it to the finish line yet again. Despite its burgeoning population, inflation and political turbulence, Indian democracy has stayed afloat in an atmosphere of destabilizing conditions in the neighbourhood.Among its neighbours, Pakistan can look forward to a democratically elected government, albeit with the army baton firmly over its head; the Bangladeshi army has joined hands with the ruling government to enforce its rule, Sri Lanka is still caught in civil strife, Nepal has seen the ruling monarchy suspend democracy and then give way to a Left victory in the elections. Bhutan is still taking its fledgling steps toward democracy and Myanmar is l under the grip of a military dictatorship. Though China shows great promise of being a source of stability in the region, its human rights record and its brutal crackdown in Tibet has attracted adverse attention.India has successfully demonstrated beyond argument that poverty, massive illiteracy and diversity on a sub-continental scale were not arguments against democracy, they were arguments for it. Although India never was a single entity until the British conquered it, it was able to forge a national identity and unite its diverse people in a feeling of ‘Indian-ness’. Unlike most democratic nations in the world which were founded on the basis of a nationalist invocation of a shared history, religion or race, the Indian nation was founded by a group of individuals who championed pluralism.
The necessity to forge a united alliance against the hostile colonial state and the trauma created by partition put India firmly on the path of pluralist democracy. Thus the fledgling India, which initially used the stratagem of pluralism to remain buoyant, later made it the cornerstone of its democracy because it legitimised the compromises essential for keeping hundreds of jostling identities aboard the good ship India. This was the ultimate political goal: to keep the diversity of a subcontinent afloat in a democratic ark. Everything else was negotiable. India also stands in sharp contrast to other nations in South Asia for the reason that every nation in the region has a religious community that dominates the ethos of that particular country. Thus, Nepal is a "Hindu" kingdom, Pakistan and Bangladesh are "Islamic" republics and Sri Lanka's constitution gives Buddhism and Sinhala, the religion and language of the majority of Sri Lankans, the "foremost" place in the life of that country. An important lesson from the recent history of South Asia is that a democracy that creates two different kinds of citizens rapidly evolves into something else. India didn't go down this road for reasons of history. Pluralist nationalism in the 19th century was invented as an answer to the specific challenges of contemporary colonialism. It was founded on the claim that the anti-colonial Indian National Congress could speak for the nation-in-the-making because its membership included representatives of all of India's people.
We’re 61 and feeling good. World Cup victories in cricket at Test and T20 levels, the Kargil upsurge and the ‘India Shining’ campaigns, this time, the world seems to have acknowledged that we’ve arrived.Six decades back, we were a fledgling republic struggling with our newlyattained identity of a free and independent nation. Divided by former masters, we were now protecting unity. We dealt with shortages, with doom-sayers, with rising turbulence in Asia, with political instability. We fought four wars and one internal battle in the Emergency. We learned to trust our instincts, whether in exploding our first nuclear device, becoming the outsource hub of the world, creating the first T20 World Cup series that has become a byword in entertainment and business. In a host of spheres, we worked hard and demanded respect. We offered the world Tata and Ambani, Mallya and Mittal, and talked about billion dollar fortunes. We gave the world the Big Fat Indian Wedding at the Palace of Versaille and the a stream of whiz-kids from our Big Fat Education System -our IITs and IIMs. Now they are now coming home. Because they want to.Our Hindi film industry is showing we make films for the most suitable sudiences in the world – ourselves. Shilpa Shetty found herself the victim of racism in Celebrity Big Brother and the world cheered when she laughed all the way to the bank. It’s like India is the flavour of the decade. And not a moment too soon. Make that the century instead!
The failure of our democracy is directly proportional to the number of sensible people who don't vote. Middle-class and upper-class people can't stand in the sun for long hours. Hence, their vote goes waste. Also, employed people are frequently transferred, hence, they are not registered as voters in their current place of residence. Even the procedure for changing the address is a long one.I strongly feel that the apathy of a majority of the people is the reason for the failures of our democracy.
You try to change the world will be brushed off, Change your mind, home, street, community, then a country. It all starts in your mind.
We all know the prevalence of corruption in today's India. It must be present in ancient India also though with a varying degree.Any recorded instances of corruption in History. How can we trace and explain its evolution with specific reference to India. Chanakya used Vishkanyas who acted as pleasure-woman for Nandas and then killed them.It may be taken as an instance of corruption. He is also reputed to have bribed many members of Nanda's army to enable Chandragupta maurya to defeat the Nanda king. A verse in Rigveda means."Stars hide on sunrise the way thieves hide on seeing somebody" indicating existence of anti-social elements in those days also. But this does not indicate the degree to which it was prevalent then. There are many instances of important people like "Jai Chand", "Mir Kasim" taking a particular course of action for private benefit. But isolated instances does not indicate degree.
Corruption is NOT a disease, its a BAD HABIT and later ADDICTION for Money.See, those who are corrupt, are people like me and you. They are not aliens and hence solving this problem is Radically difficult.Though not impossible. Why are people corrupt??
1. The LEGAL Income they earn, is not sufficient for them to leave a NORMAL life.
2. Every one around them is corrupt and earns hell lot of money which gives them complex and they start demanding bribes.
3. They have no RESPECT/FEAR of The Laws and LAW Keepers or Guardians. Cause those who implement the law are themselves corrupt.
4. Lack or the feeling of Responsibility and Belonging.
Working for corruption should be an ongoing process for generations.Every child, coming into this world, should be taught about ethics and it should be embossed on his mind that how corruption is bad and even fatal sometimes.Every kid should be taught to respect others. We should start from ourselves. We should set an example that we are not corrupt. On top of this:We should have really stringent laws and good people who implement these laws to insure that people will think a thousand times before they give/take bribe.we should also make sure that basic facilities like education and higher education, medical facilities and other are available at a very reasonable price.
Is there any reference to the corruption prevalent in society in ancient literature? Was our society always as corrupt as it is today ?
If not, when did it raise its ugly head. I think corruption needs to be defined first. Moral corruption and Legal/monetary corruption are two different things. There could be many ways but I strongly feel through EDUCATION corruption will take a back seat. How?
Some says Eradicating Corruption Its no way possible.Corruption can be of many types like corporate corruption, political corruption, data corruption, so on & so forth & eradicating these corruption totally is not possible. As long as earth is revolving corruption will do co-exist. When the earth stops revolving that will be the end of corruption.it is easy to give lectures but when you will be in the system you will face the truth, being an engineer am prepared for it.lets see how far i can go in government sector.if you can keep yourself clean in the most corrupt environment that too will be far beyond commendation. forget about stopping it.if you dare yoyourself to fight aagainst it.dozens of driving force will rise to throw you out of the system.Better be practical so its the responsibility of each of the individuals to v a universal nation, which is practically not at all possible.
PROPER EDUCATION:
Education enlightens people & harness ones inner potential & refines & redefines it into a sociable & friendly one. it widens ones horizon, wisdom, knowledge, discernment & so on.Take this case, accumulating lots of money & wealth is, not doubt, a no nonsense pursuit. However, education will teach you how to generate money & wealth for the betterment of people. The difference between an educated & uneducated person is not in their looks or heights but in their attitudes.Educated person will think for the people, he will have a self awareness & will seek for a solution rather than answer or comfort & above all he will empathize with the poor & needy.Such is the impact of education that still today the most powerful nation of the universe, the US, is still stressing the importance of education tirelessly.Making it compulsory for all the citizens of the state may give us a ray of hope to deliver us from the bondage of Corruption.
There is always an exception to rules may be there could be few people despite educated but unwise but the impact will be much more minimal than if there were many uneducated people in the state. So , according to me, through education we can definitely think of uprooting or reducing Corruption to a great level in our state/Country.Therefore, how to educate people may be more important or significant than how to banish corruption as the disappearance of later is imminent if the former precedes it.
PROPER ADMINISTRATION
The so called system of administration is inherent with bugs and this directly or indirectly leads to corruption. So unless You develop a new system you cant eradicate corruption. But i believe deep down that an ideal system is impossible. its like the Heisenberg uncertainty principle where the idea of knowing the position and velocity of electron simultaneously is impossible, its not because
of any deficiency in the measuring apparatus but its nature's nature. So any attempts seem futile.
Corruption can be eradicated. If only we really mean to do it.It has to start form each person. Can we say that we are honest in all the simple duties we are doing?Honesty stars in simple things and it begins when we are Young. We can really train a young generation which will uphold the real values of humanity.Where there is a will there is a way.
Since corruption today is not limited only upto the politicians but to a much larger scale and the system involves not only the one who is corrupt but also those who encourage any form of this corruption.be it bribe taking or giving and the entire system just cannot be changed.so to conceive a corruption free space would be nothing less than a fool's paradise.
My solutions are
1.) We all should try to raise our voice gainst corruption. Corruption is corruption even if it is for 1 rs. or 1 crore. So try to raise your voice even for 1 rs when you see somebody is charging extra. Don`t think that 1 rs. is a small money, let him to have this.
2.) corruption can be stopped only if it is stopped from higher official. Higher rank can ask to lower rank to stop corruption. But reverse is very difficult. So the people who are against corruption should be in power. So our good youth must come in politics to clean the system.
3.) We all have to promise ourselves that we will never be corrupt in life. No body can impose this to you. You only can promise to yourself. So be loyal to you and try to speak to yourself.
To stop corruption, i think all these three things are necessary. if we will choose only one option, it is still difficult. So we have to work on all these three things.
Why are we in such a helpless situation? Why are we not doing anything?
The answers are simple. We have compromised at every level of our life. Corruption is not just within politicians, it is within our system. It is within our lives. And this is taking us nowhere but towards doom.We need to clean the evil within us as soon as possible.Politicians alone cannot indulge in corruption. They are supported by each and every level of hierarchy in our system. Our police system, our income tax department, our electricity department, everywhere there is corruption. Who are these people who are doing corruptions? These are our very own people who are indulging in corruption.
This could be your father or mother or brother or sister or husband or wife or son or daughter or relative or friend. Every paise of corrupt money that you eat and drink is equivalent to flesh and blood of our fellow Indians. Is your father a corrupt? Is your mother a corrupt? Is your brother a corrupt? Is your sister a corrupt? Is your husband a corrupt? Is your wife a corrupt? Is your relative a corrupt? Is your friend a corrupt? If you are tolerating such a person, you are actually helping those corrupt people and being equally responsible for state of our nation.Clean India from corruption by changing people around you. Stop consuming anything obtained from corruption, you won’t die if you lose out few pleasures in life. This is our only chance to save and change those corrupt people else a situation will certainly arise where they would cross the limits of our toleration and that’s when we would be forced to kill them brutally. Corruption & Crime in the nation is skyrocketing as a consequence of lack of fer of Law cases drag for ever.then again, there is a next higher court.
Then we have a lame idiotic constitution that only plays around with peoples sentiments to further create insecurity in Politicians and to make them do all number games to come on same seat again .As if these parliamentary seats are world bank seats!. Whom to blame?
Then we have politicians, government and private industry officials who take and give corruption are also Indian citizens like you and me only so whom to blame? Then Cream over the Cake is our Judiciary system which I even don't care to talk about! Whom to blame? Then we have bias media which is sold to all international elements trying to gain nothing more then religious or Communist agendas to further corrupt our mind! whom to blame? Then we have our bloody history of 1100 years of Ghulami under Mughals and then Britishers which has Genetically made us most tolerant people towards self destruction. whom to blame?
Hence yes its very much possible that we will kill lots of people for this one day!
Yesterday on 5th July 2010, Bharat Bandh was observed all across the country. According to Opposition parties Bandh was the only way to register a protest against price increase eventhough it meant inconveniencing the very people who were already handed out a punishment in the form of price increase by the ruling party. The first problem to the common man on account of bandh came in the form of general inconvenience in the form of disruption in day to day activities and to complicate things a loss of rupees 3000 crores on account of bandh. Needless to say the loss incurred on account of bandh has to be borne by the common man at the end of the day.
If going by media reports it was Opposition parties who were to be faulted for calling the bandh, the ruling party was even worse. Instead of explaining to the public why prices had to be increased, they simply blamed Opposition saying that prices were increased when Oppostion too were at the helm. At the end of the day we cannot blame either the ruling party which enforced a increase or Opposition who wasted crores of rupees in loding a token protest to stall the increase because it is we ourselves who prefer to be at the receiving end.
We prefer to be mute spectators when our ministers loot crores of rupees and what is worse we re elect the same person not once or twice but atleast half a dozen times. Everybody knows crores of rupees is spent on security for ministers and other allowances which at the end of the day is borne by us but yet we prefer to remain silent. As and when an opportunity presents itself public waste no time in burning public properties and transport for the silliest of reasons, without realizing the loss caused by damage is recovered by us.
It is high time that all of us realize that we suffer not because of others, but because of ourselves.
In India , Govt . office have become centre of corruption & red tappism. If the same is removed than India can make 25% progress more per year in addition to existing growth. We have abundant manpower, resources . We can lead the world & we shall be living in India where every body is happy & prosperous. But this is not possible with out strong will & honesty of public leader . As they are breeding corruption , in turn these baboos also become corrupt . Political leader are using these baboos for own interest, in turn baboos are working for these political leaders & they are also minting money for themselves also ,Why police & defence personnel are also reported of corruption , They are also part of society . They see that these civilian counterparts are minting money why we should not be also minting .They find ways to mint money , now a days people are adopting illegal means for minting money maximum people of India are stabbing mother India , this may look odd but this is a fact . If I am corrupt & then how we can expect other to be honest . If this is not stopped , our enemy will take over us & thus we will loose a lot of our persons & wealth & another freedom struggle will have to be started.
My only small suggestion is to implement below mentioned points & see results.
- Fix time limit for courts says six month for completion of trial & punishment & very typical case say one year If a judge is found guilty of misjudgment knowingly then he should be sent to jail & be given exemplary punishment.
- Any application submitted by any public /Pvt. Person to Govt. Govt., response time should be fixed say 15 days . If deptt. does not respond, Then it should be assumed that govt. has no. objection & application is sanctioned ,if objection is raised at later stage ,all liabilities /loss should be recovered from salary of concerned staff/officer.
- All grievance & redressed should placed on website of deptt. If application is rejected , reason of rejection, If cleared latter why it was cleared . This documents should demand public. Enquiry should be ordered weather there was some under hand dealing ,then if some body is found guilty then severe punishment should be given.
- All deptt . should be audited by N.G.O. , there report should be made public & a copy should sent to CBI vigilance if NGO is found misleading fact all the member of NGO should by arrested & should be punished & no member of NGO should be allowed to make another NGO for 5 year at least.
- Assets of Govt. Baboos & minister should be made public & assets of there family member & close relations should be made public . If they are found amassing wealth disproportionate to there income ,they should be dismissed and should be hanged publicly within six month ,so that other people may not dare to be corrupt, If any member found helping them should also be given punishment .
This will result in removal of red tappism & corruption & our nation will progress & reach new heights.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is popularly known as the Iron Man of India. He was born in October 31st,1975 to a poor farmer in Gujarat. He was the fourth child in his family. He has faced many struggles in his life. There are many incidents in his life from which we hould learn many things. Some of the incidents show that how good his heart is even though he is called Iron man.
He finished his law degree after so much of struggle. He wished to get the Bar-at-law degree from the University in United Kingdom. While doing his job, he started to save money for studying in England. After the desired amount is reached, he applied for passport and got it very soon. He reached the airport and his brother came there for send off. Patel's brother told him "Even though iam elder to you, iam very happy that you first got the opportunity to study law in United Kingdom". On hearing this, Patel told his brother "As you are elder to me, you only should get the degree first" and gave the ticket and money to his brother and sent him to UK. Then Patel again started saving money for the second time , went to United Kingdom and got the degree.
When Patel was studying in the law college, he didnot even had the money to buy books. So he used to borrow the books from his friend's wife. One day, his friend's wife died suddenly leaving a 6 months old child. Patel wanted to help his friend as he had helped Patel many times. So Patel vacated his house and stayed in his friend's house and took care of the child. While it is difficult for even experienced people to manage small kids, Patel managed to take care of this small child despite being a bachelor.
One time,Patel's wife was not feeling well and got admitted in the hospital at Mumbai. But Patel has to go to the court out of the city for a hearing in a criminal case. The case was going in a crucial period. So he couldn't avoid the trip. He told the doctor to take care of his wife and also told the doctor to inform him in advance if surgery needs to be done. Patel was cross examining the imporant witness in this case. The victory for the case depends much on the statement of this witness. At that time, a telegram was delivered to him. He read it and put that in his pocket slowly and continued his arguments in the court till the end of the session. Actuall the telegram stated that his wife was dead. Previously he got the first telegram. In that it was mentioned that the surgery was done to his wife and it was successful. Even after reading the news that his beloved wife was dead, Patel did not showed his
feelings till he finished his duty. May be that's why he is called Iron Man.
This great man died at the age of 75 in 1950.
