Introduction:
With the advent of multi-national companies (MNCs) into the Indian soil and more and more sectors opening up to private players, opportunities for our young and dashing professionally and technically trained young people have increased inland and outside. The taboo of the yesteryears of Indian women confining themselves to the four walls of her in laws’ houses is of a bygone connotation.
With inflation on the rise and human wants soaring, the days of a solitary member earning for the family are gone and more and more women and brides are now employed. We have seen days when a woman in service had to stay unmarried and secluded throughout for her life. Now things have changed and life has become more challenging. An earning woman is a goose laying golden eggs and her marriage is assured as she is the most sought-after bride of the society.
Wife’s wife:
The husband of a working woman is jocularly called as his ‘wife’s wife’. The coinage of this word is a denotation error, though it has a wider connotation. We had never heard such words before. We are puzzled with the idea of a wife having a wife. These words were first used by the famous novelist Mr. Chetan Bhagat, an ultra modern, brilliant personality who is a MBA from IIM, Ahmadabad. Anusha, his wife, is a branch manager as Mr. Bhagat who is working as an executive at Hong Kong in a reputed bank.
Chetan says that he presses his wife’s legs and serves her evening tea as she returns home from the bank extremely tired. He claims that he is her ‘wife’s wife’ at present. Mr. Bhagat is a man of different type and temperament. He is not a envious as men are of their wife’s rise and promotion. He is very happy that his wife got promotion, and he explores this as an opportunity to show his talents in other fields where he is equally or more competent. He never tried to get a better position than his wife; rather he tendered his resignation from the bank job to concentrate more on his writings and home-keeping.
Reverse role:
He sees working women performing a reverse role. Men performed this role from time immemorial, and now this is the turn of women to do the men and vice-versa. A man with a working wife may not need to toil hard to earn money as he does not have to carry the burden of his family all by himself. We are very familiar with the word ‘housewife’ and now, in the new scenarios, a word, such as ‘house husband’ may be used. The society should accept the new concept without any hesitation. It is a folly to get upset when somebody calls the husband of a working wife as wife’s wife.
Bhagat is a top class celebrity who has a couple of films made on his novels. The famous film “Three Idiots” in Hindi is the story of “Five Point Someone” written by him. His writings are so powerful and popular that one would never love to leave a page until one finished the book. According to Mr. Kawal Khurana, a marriage expert, a number of men now are ready for the reverse role of a husband as wife. This would give them immense pleasure and ample time to engage in the area of activity they are adapt at. They give enough independence to their wives succeed in their hobbies.
Intelligent quotient:
A survey conducted by James Clyne, the intelligent quotient (IQ) specialist, shows that women have out shore men in brain-power and work-performance. A woman can handle a number of works of all at a time (multi-tasking) and complete all by herself. A man is found to be failing or half-hazard in such a work atmosphere. A century ago, men were a perfect five points better than their woman counterpart. Supporting that men are satisfied with their reverse role, the question arises how far women are satisfied with the performance of men in the home front. Very often, it is seen that the home keeping of men are not appreciated by women. Even though the kitchen is cleaned, saris ironed or bed-sheet spread, and women do it again. Women accomplish the job half accomplished.
Conclusion:
The abhorrence of the Japanese women towards bearing and rearing a child is well-known. The common wish of working women is also reflected in the similar manner world-wide. This shows that they are apprehensive of perfect rearing of their children by their counterparts as they themselves have no time and patience at their disposal to take care of their children. The working women prefer promotions to pregnancy. We have seen so far that a working woman is preferred and adored by her husband while her husband has a torrid and uncomfortable time in playing the role of his wife’s wife unless he is a Chetan Bhagat.
