Every worker would like to reflect the image of dynamism and honest, integrity and and conscientiousness, diligence etc. These are the basic components of professionalism. If one likes to exude these, one has to build an image of professionalism.
The question arises what makes an image. People generally believe a neat and spruce external appearance is what make's one image. On the contrary, it is not this external appearance alone that gives us the right image. In fact the values of truthfullness and diligence are what comprise a professional image. It is a reflection of our professional convictions, beliefs and behaviours.
Image management solely is dependent on the perception of others. It is as much about what we are seen to be, as who we are. It means that if we aren't managing our own professional image, some one else does it for us so people are constantly observing our behaviour, forming theories about our competence, character and commitment. In short we are the architect of our own identity.
So one must vary constantly and make a conscious effort to create the right impressions and a positive professional image. In short it must be reiterated that it is not our external apearance but by a reflection of honest commitment to a value system such as time sense, cooperation, trustworthiness and credibility, diligence one can establish oneself as great worker and authenticate his professionalism.
