Ram Ratan visits his distant nephew's home
Ram Ratan was a widower and issueless. He had retired recently. Being free from all worldy worries, he spent his post retirment days making friends on Facbook. One day he got friend request from Kishor Verma. From the Facebook profile, it struck that Kishor Verma could be his distant nephew. On his enquiry, Kishor confirmed that he was indeed his nephew and also invited him to visit Lucknow. Kishor also told that that he got govt. job recently and was married just a year ago. Ram Ratan wondered how Kishor whom he saw only as small naughty boy would look like. Obviously he would be now a grown up handsome man.
Ram Ratan sent the message on Facebook that he was visiting Lucknow. Kishor and his wife Vandana both reached the Lucknow Railway Station As soon as Ram Ratan reached the exit gate, a young man and woman greeted him. He wondered how they could recognize him. Laughingly, they told him: Uncle- "We recognized you by your profile photo on facebook." Ram Ratan realized the utility of social sites like Facebook. Indeed the internet social sites have brought people closer.
Ram Ratan stayed at Lucknow for a week only. He felt that the couple were not so happy. He failed to understand the cause of their worries. They could obviously not be facing any financial difficulty as Kishor was well paid and had no dependant in his village. His wife was pretty and well behaved. But he noticed that they had tension only when somebody from their village came. If they visited only casually, there would be no issue. Vandana was a well behaved hospitable woman. She liked visitors.
What made Kishor and his wife uneasy
Now Ram Ratan tried to find out what brought so many guests. He talked to some of them. Almost every one came for some work with government department at Lucknow. Ram Ratan now understood the cause of his nephew 's tension. The tension was also spoiling family life. Kishor had to contact various offcies and clerks and exercise his influence for getting the job of his guests done. In view of rampant corruption, nothing could be done without bribe. His relations with his colleagues were also affected as nobody wants any intervention in his oficial job. Kishor was reluctant to refuse his help to the guests.
Ratan left Lucknow with an uneasy mind. He was uneasy because of tension in Kishor's household. One day, he thought of a plan. He had ggod contacts at top level in the U.P. He contacted a senior official in secretariat at Lucknow and requested him that his nephew be transferred to some distant place away from Lucknow. Within a week Kishor was transferred to Agra. He felt a bit disgusted and even asked his seniors as to why he was transferred. But his senior told- "Transfer is a rotine matter. You need not feel bad. Moreover, Your wife will be happy to vist Taj and other historic places at Agra. People spend so much to visit Agra whereas you are so lucky that you get this opportunity at government cost."
Ratan visits Agra
One day Ratan gave a surprise by seeing Kishor in his new office. Kishor got short leave for the day and accompanied him to his residence. Ratan again stayed for a few days. He was pleased to find that the couple were free of tension They were happy being away from home town.
