All living things depend on plants for their food. Most of our food comes from plants of different variety. They need to be grows in fields where they get suitable soil, water, minerals, humans, temperature and sunlight. Different plants require different kinds of soils.
Crops like pulses, cereals and grams grow in winter and are called Rabi crops. Rice, jower and bajra grow in summer and are called kharif crops. Fruits and vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, beans, radish and peas grow well in winter. Vegetables like pumpkin, brinjal and grounds grow well in summer.
Now-a -day’s manures and chemical fertilizers are added to the soil to increase the production of vegetables. Dead and decaying plants and cow dungs are common manures. Chemical fertilizers like urea, ammonium sulphates, nitrates and super phosphates should also be used to get good yielding.
For good crops healthy and ripe seeds should be sown. Proper Ploughing, irrigation and using manures and fertilizers results are in good crop.
For better and healthy crops, we must protect the crops.
By proper fencing around the field, e can protect the crops from grazing animals like goats, cows, buffaloes etc. Birds should be kept away using scare crow. Crop rotation also helps to increase the production. Weeds and diseased plants should be removed from the fields regularly. Protect the crops from being eaten or spoiled by rats, mice, squirrels and other birds. Protect the crops against diseases and insects. Crops should be sprayed with insecticides and pesticides such as D.D.T and gammaxene.
After harvesting, the seeds must be protected from moisture and kept away from rats, moles, squirrels, mice and insects. So the seeds should be stored in air tight sealed containers.

Beans, carrot, onion, potato and tomato are some common vegetables.
Fruits
Apples, bananas, cherries, oranges, pineapples and strawberries are some popular fruits. Fruits are of two types –fleshy. Mango and papaya are fleshy fruits. Raisin, apricot and almond are fruits.
