BASIC INTRODUCTION ABOUT KNITTING FABRICS
Generally knitting fabric will be done by knitting machine. There are three basic types of fabrics. They are as follows.
Types of Knitting Fabrics (Basic).
- i)Jersey
- ii)Interlock
- i)Rib
These are the Basic Fabric used on knitting industry.
Based on this basic fabric there are many different types of fabrics will be achieved. They are.
- i)jersey
(1) Single Jersey
(2) Double jersey
(3) Interlock Jersey
(4) Jacquard Jersey
- ii)Interlock
(1) Single Interlock
(2) Double interlock
- iii)Rib
(1) Single Rib ( 1*1 Rib)
(2) Double Rib (2*2 Rib)
(3) Durby Rib (4*4 Rib)
(4) Flat-knit Rib
Single Jersey :
The single jersey is a basic fabric which knitting will be done in loop format. This fabric structure will be like front side one view and back side an another view. We can easily indentify the fabric structure. Normally the weight of single jersey fabric will be done from 90 – 240 g/m2.
Double Jersey :
The Double jersey will be the same kind of jersey fabric. This fabric structure will be like double layer of single jersey fabric. Normally the weight of double jersey fabric will be 140 – 280 g/m2 .
Heavy Jersey :
The Interlock jersey is the fabric which looks like front and back same view and it will be slightly heavy comparing to single jersey. The normal weight which is used for this fabric will be 240 g/m2 and above.
Jacquard Jersey :
Jacquard Jersey is the fabric nothing that single jersey but the structure of fabric will have designs on fabric. Normally we can do jacquard design from 140 g/m2 and above fabric.
Interlock Fabric :
Interlock fabric is mainly used for Heavy garments like 220 g/m2 and above. The structure of fabric will be like front and back in same view. We can easily indentify the fabric by viewing generally.
Rib Fabric:
Rib is generally used for Ladies wear. Rib fabric generally has an elasticity in general. Normal Weight used for Rib fabric is 180 g/m2 and above. Types of Rib is defined in terms of needle adjustment. If we need 1*1 rib (one vertical stitch * one purl stitch).
