Man needs so many things in life, and he cannot obtain any of these without money. I happen that one man does not have enough money while his neighbor has too much money. It is this inequitable distribution of money that causes all the evil. Let us consider school children. A well-to-do boy buys expensive snacks and eats to his heart’s content, while his friend, a poor boy watches with longing eyes and watering mouth, and accepts a piece offered by his rich friend. His parents cannot afford to give him pocket money. If the poor boy’s conduct is vulnerable, he resorts to stealing some cash from friends or daddy’s pocket. This is an example where absence of money leads to evil. Imagine a man, the head of a family who has to support his aged parents, his wife and two small children. Recently, the company where he was serving closed down and he is left jobless. How is he going to manage? He starts borrowing from friends, and when they find that he is unable to repay, they refuse to lend him.
His friends are no more friends, he avoids meeting them. Who will lend money to an employed man? His financial condition deteriorates rapidly and his family now lives below the poverty line. He cannot to see his children starving. He becomes desperate and hardens his mind to commit some drastic deed, which will not solve the problem but will destroy the family. Consider for example, a man who is filthy rich. He knows that he can get anything by paying money; he understands the power of money. He is tempted to use his money to trouble those whom he hates. He gets satisfaction by causing harm to others. He shuns the company of his humble friends. His outlook changes, he becomes haughty and moves only move only in rich circles. He may go on like this till one day he meets with a crash! Thus we see that the luck of money as well as the excess of money leads to evil. So we can conclude that just an adequate amount of money will ensure that a man preserves his virtues. Ours is a country of extremes. On one hand there are people who are excessively rich, while on the other hand there are people who are dying of starvation. The government should undertake eradication of poverty on a war-footing and prevent deaths caused by desperation or starvation.
