`Where there is a will, there is a way’ is a very popular saying. Will means firm determination? A person, who has a strong will, always finds a way out of his or her difficulties. Nothing is impossible for such a person. But for a person of weak will, even small jobs seem to be very difficult. He or she losses heart at every step and thinks of leaving the attempt.
Life is a not bed of roses. It is full of obstacles. There fore, strong will is required to travel through the thorny path of life. Failures, dangers, opposition and despair are there to discourage us. Only person with a resolute will can make them melt away and march forward.
Many people often chalk out big plans for doing something great, but few are really able to achieve this. Persons with a strong will go on marching forward at a steady speed. They are not disheartened by their failures. They have full confidence in their efforts. So, they gain success one day.
You must have heard the name of Napoleon, the greatest conqueror. He was a man of iron will who used to say. `Impossible is word found in the dictionary of fools’.
Napoleon spent all his life in wars against his enemies.
Once he made a plan to make an attack on an enemy king. So, he called his general and said, `by tomorrow morning my army shall be at much and such place.’ The general bowed low and said, `My lord, it is impossible. The Alps Mountains stand in the way. How can our soldiers cross its snowy peaks so soon?
Napoleon flew into a rage to hear these words. He thundered, `Ask the Alps to make way for my troops. If it denies, smash it and push it out of the way by force. It is my order.’ The general nodded respectfully and went away. Losing no time he set his soldiers to the task of making a road across the Alps. The soldiers of a resolute general were no less firm-minded. They worked their spades all through the chilly night and dug a passage by dawn.
The general was very pleased to see the work of his courageous Jawans. He praised them for their untiring zeal. He ran to inform his master that the Alps had made way for his troops. Soon, the brave soldiers crossed the high mountain to reach, its other side.
Next morning, napoleon the great, rode his horse to inspect his troops before making the attack. He was really wonder –struck to see what his fearless soldiers had done during the night. He praised them for their firm will and untiring labor. Many of them were rewarded too.
In short time, napoleon attacked his enemy who could not hold his own. What was this victory due to? It was due to napoleon’s strong will. It gave a new life to his soldiers too. Had he left the idea of crossing the Alps, he would not have won a victory. Napoleon had a very strong will. He used to say- `I gaze at my object and it starts moving to me’.
This victory shows that a strong-willed person is sure to overcome all dangers. Once he decides to do a thing, he finds the way to achieve it. He does not rest unless he has achieved it.
