Man has progressed through science and technology. Now with scientific knowledge and technical know-how he has done what was impossible. He has reached the moon. He is on the road to conquer other planets. What was difficult and impossible is now easy and possible.
Science and technology have made our life quiet secure, safe and extremely comfortable. The word ‘luxury’ in now meaningful in the real sense. You can enjoy all the blessings of the world. Now the life is worth-living. Today we entirely depend on science. Whether at home or outside, the science ids there as our maid-servant. It has revolutionized the world of entertainment. You can entertain yourself with V.C.R and colored T.V. the home is virtually a theater if we are blessed with these boons of science. Electric light, geyser, fan, cooler, air-conditioner, pressure cooker, cooking gas etc all are the blessings of science. You can enjoy cold coffee, mango shake or syrup when it is scorching heat outside, your refrigerator is there to provide you ice and cubes to cool your drinks. During the winter again, sizzling hot food and that too in no time, is the gift of science.
Today traveling has become speedy and cosy. No spaces have shrunk. Distance is no problem. The whole world has come together. You take your breakfast in Delhi, your lunch in London and for your dinner you are very much in time at New York. The entire globe appears to be our home now. It is all because of supersonic jets and planes. The railways are another mode of comfortable transportation. The car, bus, scooter, cycle are other means of vehicles which we use day and night. These vehicles have made our daily life trouble free. It is all a wonder of science. The modern world is more and more dependent on them.
Then what is necessary with regard to taming science and technology. We must have the basic knowledge of the two. It is said ‘Science is a good and useful servant but it is a bad destructive master’. If we do not harness it for the welfare of the mankind, I am afraid the total annihilation of the world is a must. It will meet its doom quite soon. Why do we not tame atomic energy to peaceful purposes? Let us not think in terms of destruction. Our approach should be constructive and in the right direction. If a lay man learns the elementary of science and technology, he will become experienced and intelligent. He will not stumble in the dark. He will not believe in witchcraft. He will not be superstitious. He will judge everything on merit. He will develop a scientific bent of mind. He will use science and its knowledge in everyday life. He will derive the richest fruit of it. Engineering, medicine, digging out mines and taking out minerals out of them are also the gift of science. A literate person can fight superstition and blind faith.
The two provide solution to our every increasing problem of population, poverty, unemployment, etc. They can provide remedy of every ill. Man has been able to find out the causes and remedies of most of the deadly diseases. Now malaria, small pox, T.B and cancer are no more fatal ailments. They have taken a heavy toll of mankind. But we can now fight them very successfully. If there is a proper application of the two, the welfare of the people is bound to take place. Now we Indians are technologically advanced. We have achieved a lot with the help of these two. They have proved like Aladdin's magic lamp. They are the result of man’s toiling and hard labor. Let us preserve it and use it for the benefit of mankind.
