Pregnancy is a most remarkable anabolic process whereby out of food, vitamins, minerals and hormones, a baby is born within nine month. Pregnancy is a very special period between conception and child birth during which time many complex and interrelated changes that occur throughout the entire body. These changes may be physical and emotional, psychological, hormonal and Pregnancy time the foetus grows and matures inside the mother’s womb until ready to be born.

One of the most important determinants of the baby's health and development is the mother's diet. Proper diet in adequate quantities is extremely essential for a pregnant woman since she undergoes a severe nutritional stress.  Eating a proper balanced diet, high in nutrients, is one of the most important things you can do to ensure the future health of both you and your baby.

 

Once pregnant you need to eat a well balanced diet.

  • Nuts, dried fruits
  • vegetables
  • Milk and dairy products
  • Fruits and fruit juices.
  • Iron, calcium, and Vitamin B + D+ Zinc supplements.
  • Folic acid
  • Drink at least six to eight glasses of water, juice or milk every day.

Food to Be Avoided During Pregnancy

  • Canned food - can cause food poisoning
  • Raw fish, especially shellfish.
  • Coffee and tea
  • Alcohol
  • Greasy or heavily spiced foods.
  • Junk food with lots of calories and too few nutrients.
  • Raw eggs and food containing raw eggs.
  • Undercooked or raw meat, fish and processed meat
  • Caffeine
