24th June 1966 has to be the most memorable day for millions of people in Andhra Pradesh because it was on this day that Vijayshanthi, one of the most gorgeous heroines of all time was born in Andhra Pradesh.
Vijayshanthi made her debut when she was just 13 and by the time she was 17 when Neti Bharatham was released she had already become the undisputed number one actress in Telugu film industry a position she held till she quit movies on her own terms. What made Vijayshanti special was the fact that she had a very long career as a heroine and that too as number one right from the time she gained recognition in Neti Bharatham in 1983 till she quit films on her own terms after a long career as heroine which is something very rare in India.
Another thing which made Vijayshanthi special was the fact that she was a three in one heroine. If there was a category of viewers who wanted a movie with heroine in lead role then Vijayshanthi was the first choice and if one wanted to view a typical hero oriented movie with a glamorous heroine playing second fiddle, then there was nobody more glamorous than Vijayshanthi for the role of heroine. If audience wanted a heroine in title role in an action movie, then nobody could perform the role of a action queen better than Vijayshanthi who is known for performing real stunts.
The extremely talented Vijayshanthi should be credited for planning her career very well. Though she attained super stardom and critical acclaim very early in her career for her astonishing performance in Neti Bharatham which was a big blockbuster she did not get carried away and get tempted for doing heroine oriented movies for the rest of her career. She chose to act in movies with her playing second fiddle to hero in typical hero oriented movies. A very high percentage of her movies with top heroes were huge hits. Vijayshanthi acted in the most number with Chiranjeevi as her co star and the pair formed such a wonderful onscreen chemistry that all of their movies starting from early eighties till late nineties were huge blockbusters. The Vijayshanti-Chiranjeevi delivered some huge blockbusters like Challenge and Mahangaramlo Mayagadu in 1984, Kondaveeti Raja, Chanakya Shapadam and Dairyavanthudu in 1986, Yamudiki Mogadu, Pasivadi Pranam in 1987, Machi Donga and Yuddha Bhoomi in 1988, Gang Leader in 1991. While the Chiranjeevi Vijaysanthi combination was the perfect recipe for a block buster in terms of commercial success, the pair were equally adept in delivering award winning hits like Swayam Krushi released in 1987. The Chiranjeevi Vijayshanthi pair apart from being a visual beauty and the favourite pair for millions not only brought collective success for themselves, but also individual success making them the highest paid hero and heroines, a status they held on till they quit films on their own terms.
While Vijayshanti and Chiranjeevi formed a terrific combination, she was ease pairing up with any other hero irrespective of the difference in age between her and the hero. Vijayshanthi formed a successful partnership with Balakrisha too and though she did not attain the same success which she achieved with Chiranjeevi, still the Vijayshanthi Balakrishna pair delivered super hits like Mudulla Krishnayya, Muvva Gopaludu.
While Vijayshanti was delivering huge blockbusters with big heroes in the eighties, she has consistently delivered block busters on her own with her in the lead role. Apart from Neti Bharatam, Vande Mataram and Pratighatana released in 1985, Repati Pourallu and Aruna Kiranam in 1986 and Sandhya Ragam released in 1987 were huge block busters. In early nineties with the likes of Chiranjeevi begining to work with heroines like Nagma, Vijayshanthi shifted her focus to action packed roles in heroine oriented movies which continued to bring her success.
While Vijayshanthi was known for fitting into any type of role with ease, she was one of those heroines who fit into any costume with ease. While she looked ravishing in sarees and half sarees, she looked good in modern dresses an aspect not many heroines of any generation can boast of. Vijayashanthi can also boast of a fact that she was the first regional actress to become a household name in India without acting in hindi movies as her hindi movies are very rare and hard to remember. Vijayshanti can also boast of the fact that she attained stardom in India in an era in which there was no Internet and media hype.
Let us wish Andhra Beauty Vijayshanti, who stole the hearts of millions and gave us magical moments a Very Very Happy and Wonderful Birthday.
16th June 1947 is a significant day in the history of Indian cinema because it was on this day superstar Mithun Chakraborty, the undisputed number one in late eighties was born.
To begin with Mithun Chakraborty shot into fame for bagging the national award for the best actor for his performance in Mrigaya released in 1976. However it was Disco Dancer released on 17th December 1982 which made Mithun Chakraboty a big star on par with the likes of Jeetendra, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachan. Disco Dancer is one movie which will be remembered by millions of movie fans much in the same vein as Sholay. If Sholay ended an era of romantic movies, Disco Dancer introduced dancing in India and capitulated Mithun Chakrabory to superstardom.
What made Mithun Chakraborty special was the fact that he was a rare actor who was adept in non commercial national award winning movies like Mrigaya and very much ease at delivering action packed blockbusters like Disco Dancer. If that was not enough he was equally ease at family oriented movies like Pyar Jhuktha Nahin released in 1984 which hardly had any action. While Mithun was equally at ease in any type of movies it was his dancing and stunts which caught the imagination of millions. Mithun churned out hits in succession in late eighties with movies like Dance Dance, Swarag Se Sunder, Commando, Jaal, Jeete Hain Shan Se and a host of other movies.
There was a time when Mithun Chakrabory could not marry the girl of his choice because his prospective father in law considered Mithun financially unfit to take care of his daughter. The same Mithun went on to become India's most sought after superstar and there was a time in late eighties when he was booked for 15 years which media hyped superstars of the modern era can only dream of. Mithun Chakraborty also had the distinction of being Indias highest tax payer for five consecutive years. There was a time when top heroines were reluctant to work with Mithun when he was struggling to make a mark in the industry but at the peak of his career in the late eighties these heroines were competing to each other to be paired opposite Mithun.
Once Amitabh took a break from movies after a injury sustained on the sets of Sholay, Mithun Chakraborty took over the mantle of number one. Mithun held the distinction of being the number one till he decided to take a break from movies in early nineties to take care of his hotel business and after initial failure his hotel business like his movies became a big hit. However the likes of Shahrukh Khan who made their debuts during the break period took advantage of Mithun's absence to cement their places in Bollywood.
Today on his birthday, let us wish Mithun who introduced Disco Dance in India a very very happy and wonderful birthday.

Hi,
I think most of you have watched the movie Adhurs. Anyway for those who haven't watched here is a review of the film.
Banner: Vaishnavi Arts
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematography: Chota K. Naidu
Story: Kona Venkat
Editing: Goutam Raj
Producers: Vamsi Mohan and Kodali Nani
Screenplay & Direction: VV Vinayak
Released Date: 13th Jan 2010
Main Cast: Jr NTR, Nayantara, Sheela, MS Narayana, Brahmanandam, Tanikella Bhrani.
Brief Story:
It’s a story that is quite similar in Telugu films and runs with no suspense but humor. Like in many other Telugu movies, the twin brothers get separated at the time of birth. A Brahmin lady loses her child at the time of giving birth and unfortunately it is her third son in row to expire. After hearing the news an old woman in the family who is the mother of her husband gets agitated and she secretly replaces the dead-baby with a healthy baby from adjacent mother who delivers twins, with the help of the nurse in the hospital.
The lady who delivers twins leaves the hospital with single baby assuming the other baby had died. Thus one boy grows up in Brahmin family as Chari (Jr NTR) and another grows up at his mother as Narsimha (Jr NTR).
While Chari is traditional in speech, act and thought. In contrast, Narasimha is very rough in all aspects. How these two brothers unite will be shown almost at the end of the film. Nayantara whose name is Chandrakala in the film loves Chari and another heroin Sheela loves Narasimha.
Brahmanandam did a splendid job as Bhattu as he did in many films. Raghu Babu is good and MS Narayana also acted well. Tanikella Bharani was well suited in Brahmin’s role.
As in many films the climax of the film didn't proved to be worth excepted the concept of the missile. Overall the film was good and I would rate it as 3 on a scale of 5.
Highlights of the film:
* All songs which are composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
* NTR’s dances stood on top and got lot of applaud from the audience.
* Brahmanandam’s comedy as lover to Nayanatara impressed a lot.
* Mahesh Manjrekar who was bad person also tried to impress the audience with his comedy role.
Regards,
Karthik.
