Music Review : Players(Hindi)

No comments on “Music Review : Players(Hindi)”

Players the latest hindi remake of English movie The Italian Job has tunes composed by Pritam Chakraborthy. Expectations soaring high on the album since the combo of the Race movie makers Abbas-Mastan duo with Pritam is back. So lets see is the album meets expectations of audience .

cast:Abhishek Bachchan | Bobby Deol | Sonam Kapoor | Bipasha Basu | Neil Nitin Mukesh | Sonam Kapoor

Music Director:Pritam

Jis jagah pe khatam Singers: Neeraj Shridhar , Siddharth Basrur , Mauli Dave

The album starts with a chartbuster that is being played a lot on promos of the movie. It has the rightful mix of thriller feel . Neeraj Shridhar proves to be the right choice likewise in Hare krishna Hare Ram from Bhool Bhulaiyya. Mauli Dave the contestant from Saregama surely got herself a peppy song which is sure to raise her profile. The song is an instant hit.

Our verdict : Thumbs Up

Jhoom jhoom ta ja Singer: Ritu Pathak

The song has a lot of scope but is dogged by inconsistency in some places. Though it turns out to be OK in the end, the song is never going to be a chartbuster. It is more of a Sunidhi Chauhan type song. Though the song doesn't disappoint, it does not live upto expectations. More can be expected from Pritam.

Our verdict : Neutral

Ho gayi tun Singers:Yashita Yashpal , Bob

A collosal disappointment with thrown in instruments of different uncoordinated sounds.

Our verdict : Spam

Dil ye bekarar kyun hai - reprise Nikhil D'Souza , Priyani Vani

A relief song with feel of a romance the forte of Pritam Da. It brings the memories of I am in love from Once upon a time in Mumbai. This feel good song with its sugar syrupy tone saves the album from disaster of previous song. Kudos to Nikhil for uplifting the song with his vocals. He is another K.K. in making

Our verdict : Thumbs Up

Jhoom jhoom ta hun main - film version Arijit Singh

The song has rightful mix of right singer with right notes. The same version by Ritu Pathak had disappointed whereas Arjit singh shows why he deserves the song. He makes this his own song and brings his own voice with right feel and soul which were lacking in early version and we start loving this song already.Arjit sounds like Atif Aslam and now we know Pritam is making his own versions of Atif and K.K. Good that this is the filmi version as it will certainly do more good than the other version.

Our verdict : Double Thumbs Up

Jis jagah pe khatam - remix Neeraj Shridhar , Siddharth Basrur , Mauli Dave , Kiran Kamath This is a disappointing remix. Pointless in having it as if it has become mandatory to include a remix in a filmi album for promos sake

Our verdict : Thumbs Down

Dil ye bekarar kyun hai - remix Mohit Chauhan , Shreya Ghoshal , Hyacinth Dsouza

The remix is helped by Mohit's vocals which never cease to amuse us. If its not for Mohit this remix would have been another trash.

Our verdict : Thumbs Up

Buddhi do bhagwaan - charlie's song Abhishek Bachchan

Last time Abhi and Pritam joined for Thayn Thayn in Dum Maaro Dum. This song though not as good a chartbuster as earlier outing , it is going to be just another song sung by Abhi. It is difficult to say now whether this will be a hit. It is not bad either. The song seems more apt for a desi version of Charlie's Angels. Wonder if Abhi is playing Charlie and the heroines Sonam and Bips turn out to be Charlie's Angels.

Our verdict : Thumbs Up

Dil ye bekarar kyun hai Mohit Chauhan , Shreya Ghoshal

Pritam Album is always incomplete without Mohit's vocals. This song sure completes the dish of Players. The song is romantic sounding more like Te Amo. This is going to be a chartbuster surely and Mohit rightfully delivers the song with his soulful singing. Kudos to him .

Our verdict : Thumbs Up

Jhoom jhoom ta hun main Siddharth Basrur

We start wondering why there are so many versions of a song for Pritam. May be next time he can start a competition of giving the same song to 11 singers and vote them out in each round and the winner gets the song in film version . By now the song seems only to accentuate that Arjit is a better singer. We are more convinced already that his is a better version.

Our verdict : Spam

Coming to the final verdict we have 3 chartbusters after all these songs. The winners are Jis jagah pe khatam , Dil ye bekarar kyun hai, Jhoom jhoom ta hun main - film version Our verdict : Thumbs Up Rating : 3.5 out of 5 stars

Why this kolaveri kolaveri kolaveri di

Why this Kolaveri Di- a song that has taken world by the storm. The classic example of howcyber space can be used for publicity. Within a week’s time it has become the biggest hit in the country. Sony Entertainment India had very wisely used its marketing strategy and uploaded thissong on facebook. And with this step it became song with 3.8 million views on YouTube. On all radio stations it is the song with highest demand. And it is the first tamil song to be premiered on national music channel MTV. {jcomments on}South indian and tamil movies are now on global music charts and credit for it goes to kolaveri di.

The basic reason behind such a rage for this song is its catchy words. Taminglish –tamil +English words are used in this song. Tune is very catchy and you would find yourself humming itonce you hear it. It is sung by Tamil star Dhanush who happens to be son-in-law of megastar Rajinikant. This song is from upcoming movie ‘3’ directed by Aishwarya Dhanush who is daughter of Rajinikant. The composer of this song by now has become a famous name at mere age of 21. Anirudh who is nephew of Rajinikant composed this song and according to him broken English and catchy tune has made this song such an all time hit within few weeksof its release. If you listen to the lyrics it makes no sense. Why this kolaveri di-means- why this murderous rage. Soup song means love failure song and soup  boys means boys who failed in love.

This song has been taken noticed of by people of all ages, from kids to adults, artistto intellectuals, college goings to professionals. Bollywood Super star Amitabh Bacchan, film director Karan Johan all have tweeted about this song and congratulated Dhanush and Aishwarya. If you haven’t heard the song yet, don’t waste time and listen to this latest craze on youtube. And lyrics can be very much understood but if you can’t then do not hesitate google lyricsfor Kolaveri Di and you would have list of so many sites answering your query!! Music Review: Mausam

No comments on “Music Review: Mausam”

altmausam

altMausam is an upcoming movie starring Shahid Kapur and Sonam Kapoor directed by Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur. The cast includes Supriya Pathak and Anupam Kher. Music is by Pritam Chakraborty and lyrics by  Irshad Kamil.

01 Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye:

Sung by Shahid Mallya , the song is a sweet melody with a sufi and punjabi touch in the music beats of the song. The lyrics represents the hesitation and shyness faced in love. The song connects instantly and is in the league of Ajj Din Chadiya from Love aaj kal. This is one of the best songs in the album. The verdict for the song is Outstanding. Read on to find out if it is the best of all.

02 Sajh Dhaj Ke :

The song sung by Mika Singh and Pankaj Kapur. Ofcourse how can a Pritam album be without a Mika song. The singer has been a regular in most of Pritam's albums. The peppy dance beats with the drums of the foot tapping number are similar to Nagada from Jab we met or Bhootni ke from Singh is Kingg. It is a typical punjabi song with teasing lyrics addressed for NRIs. As far as picturisation is concerned we get to see this number for a marriage. The second lead Aditi sharma is also picturised in the song. The verdict for the song is good.

03 - Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi

The song sung by Hans Raj Hans captures the sadness of separation in love. Hans Raj shows how we miss his soulful voice in hindi picture all these years. The song is in the league of Tadap Tadap from Hum dil De chuke Sanam or Aaoge Jab Tum from Jab we Met. The verdict for the song is Outstanding.

04 - Poore Se Zara Sa Kam Hain

The song begins with only the voice of Rashid Khan without instrument beats for more than a minute. It is a sad number capturing the essence of completeness in love without partner. The song seems situational . The verdict of the song is Good.

05 - Aag Lage Us Aag Ko

Sung by Karsan Das Sagathia the song is a mix of Gujarathi Duha with Sufi music an interesting mix. The dance number is in the league of Dholi Taro Dhol Baje from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The song captures the ecstasy after reunion of two people separated. The verdict of the song is Very Good.

06 - Mallo Malli

Here comes a typical Shahid Kapoor dance number customised for his dance. Tochi Raina returns after his composing stint with Vishesh films. The song is in complete contrast with all the songs in the album so far.It is interesting to see whether the picturisation has captured the dance beats accordingly. At times the song sounds like a remix song which mostly end up as the closing credit sequences. The verdict for the song is Very Good.

07 - Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye

Now we may be wondering why the song has repeated again. It is neither remix nor reprise version. Well Pritam seems missing his favourite singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. The song which is typically sung by Rahat has Shahid Mallya singing the earlier version. While reviewing the song earlier we mentioned how the song is in the league of Aaj Din Chadiya. So it may be natural that Pritam wanted Rahat to sing it. Perhaps he may have felt that Mallya's version is better and the promos ended up with that version. We sure can't agree more. The verdict for the song is Good.

08 - Sajh Dhaj Ke (Desi Mix Tiger Style)

The song has some fast pace and additional beats than the original. I am prejudiced against remixes normally. But I have to make an exception for this one surely. If the original is a wine in a bottle the remix is a 40 year old wine which just got improved in beats and tweaks. This version is certainly better. I am surprised how they didn't use it in promos which would have certainly improved the reach of the song. The song is in the league of Mauja hi Mauja Remix. The verdict for the song is Outstanding.

09 - Sajh Dhag Ke (Club Mix Tiger Style)

Now I am personally feeling a bit exhausted hearing to this may mixes. Well I am personally happy with Desi Mix Tiger style. The club Style doesnt suit the tempo of the song. At places it sounds like only drums and an army march.Sure the beats may be good but it is not coherent. The verdict for the song is average.

10 - Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (Reprise)

Rahatji better keep a watch on Shahid Mallya. The reprise version is nothing different from original and makes it difficult to pick among the two which must be a success for Shahid Mallya. I personally like both the versions. The verdict for the song is Outstanding.

11 - Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (Mehfil Mix)

The song from Wadali brothers is a surprisingly completely different from earlier versions and listener instantly forgets the earlier versions. The song sounds in the league of Aas Paas Khuda from Anjaana Anjaani. The verdict for the song is Outstanding.

12 - Mallo Malli

Lehmber Hussainpuri and Hard Kaur just accelerate the song more with peppy rap. The song does not dissappoint in its repeat version and I was surely not tired by this version. The verdict for the song is Very Good.

13 - Mallo Malli (Remix)

This Tochi Raina song remixed by Kiran Kamath is not much different from original. There is not much to be said than the different beats and chorus. The song sounds more like Kyon Paisa Paisa karti hai from De Dana Dan .It is a disappointment and a liability for the album. The verdict for the song is average.

Final Verdict : On the upside 'Mausam ' as the title suggests is a refreshing album. On the downside the album with three versions of three songs makes for most . While this may be for the better the listeners may be spoilt for choice to pick their best version, there is also a danger of their shying away due to repetitiveness of a song part. The good news is nothing can stop a good song from being a hit.

My top Songs: Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye(Shahid Mallya),Sajh Dhaj Ke (Desi Mix Tiger Style),Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (All versions)

Best Song: Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye(Shahid Mallya)

Get up and listen

No comments on “Get up and listen”
If you have not spent much of time obsessing about sound as you have in the pursuit of the best HD or not picture in the last few years, you are forgiven. For whatever reason, the technology we’ve in contact with reached the level of “good enough” some years ago, and that’s where we have stopped. Case in point: performances. The concept of surround sound and multiple-channel audio has been…well…surrounding us since the 1940’s, with Disney Fantasia. And, how, we have the technology, so here we are. And this is the story with rock concerts too. We have been close and personal with the sound setups at our share of performances, and for all their sophistication, they really just boil down to “put speaker in room, and turn up the volume”. But a few years ago – somewhere near Mark Knoppler’s performance in Mumbai – in a casual conversion, somewhere brought this crazy idea: instead of using ten big speakers and hoping that they are loud enough to cover the entire auditorium, why not just use a hundred smaller speakers all around the auditorium? This way, you don’t walk the neighbors and you give everyone – even the cheapskates in the back – a better overall experience. Win – win. It’s highly possible that this someone threw the idea at the Fraunhofer Institute, because at CeBIT 2007, we saw it in action. IOSONO In its physical form, Fraunhofer’s ISONO technology is exactly what we just described: a continuous band of smaller speakers running along all four walls. The result’s however is the most immersive experience we’ve ever had, including the entire expensive tech we have been around in these offices. Also- and than one would think – we could walk up to the speakers and have our ears blown off. If you have ever walked up near the speakers at a club or concert, you will appreciate this. ISONO’s secret is the big sweet spot-of-the-hall sweet spot on this sweet spot business. But first… The Wave front - We hear sound because of the disturbances it creates in the air around our ears. If you think about it in slow motion, you can picture the sound leaving a speaker in expanding spheres. These spheres are called wave fronts, and when you are in their way, you hear sound. And some gets less intense with distance from speaker- too close and your eye ball may burst, too far and, well, why bother? We are building up to a point here………. The sweet spot - Picture yourself in say a movie theatre, the speaker like your households 5. 1 system, (if you in such a household) are placed on four corners of the room, and right in front with the screen. Each of these speakers is sending out sound in wave fronts for these entire speakers meet, you get to experience all the goodness of 5.1- channel audio – you are in a “sweet spot”. Unfortunately, most people watch their movies and concerts from outside the sweet spot. You may be one of the ten people getting the full experience. There’s a bit of advice you did not headed to the movies, pick seat in the centre of the theatre. Obviously, if more of us are to enjoy our things, we must all be in the sweet spot. One option would have been to place speakers really far from the audience space. In an alternate space, may be they do have enough real estate to do that. In our world, we must find another way. It’s called wave field’s synthesis. The simulation - Imagine this: you are about ten feet away from a large speaker, looking (hypothetically) at a wave front. This may be the optional non-eyeball-melting-but-still-loud-enough distance, but what if you don’t have ten feet to spare? What if you live in a high-rent dingy studio in the wrong of the wrong metropolis, curing your sad, pathetic ….sorry, sometimes we get carried away? Anyway, when you are pressed for space, like say a new multiplex in a crowded metro, it is possible to use an array of smaller speakers and mathematical algorithms or two to simulate that same wave front, just inches away from you. Creating a simulated wave front is simple enough. The speaker in the centre starts emitting sound first, the one on either side next, and so on. And there you are – if the speakers simulate the wave fronts at the sweet spot, suddenly the sweet spot becomes every spot that’s at least six inches away from the wall. And the big selling point here is that this works even with regular 5.1 audio as well, so it even makes business sense right here we are then. Interlude - We don’t really do this, but permit us, if you will get on our soapbox and yell for a bit. You see as the beginning of the article plainly suggests, the “future” of technology already exists. With loss less formats like FLAC, and gigabytes of space available for peanuts, it entirely possible for us to enjoy this because of good old human idiocy. Here’s how e got idea for a “future of sound” article: we have gone from CRT monitors to 22-inch HD capable screens in almost no time. We have gone from lugging around CDs and a portable CD player in a backpack, to dumping entire music collections on to a PMP and still have place left over. Our experiences with audio, on the other hand, have changed in decades, weather today or in 1979, there’s one way to bring a “concert experience” home – get the music in its purest form (no, not by kidnapping the band) put it through the best equipment money can buy (ideally the kind that the studios own) and turn up the volume. With ISONO, our concert experience may come closer to the experience of being in the studio with the artist. And if you can set up an ISONO system at home, you can bring the experience home as well. But the real problem – the rotten banana skin slip on- is what’s known as the “loudness war”. At some point in the jukebox era, recording industry executives decided that consumers were such brain-dead twits that they could not be asked to get up and turn up the volume when the noise in the car/cafe/establishment-of-your choice was drowning out of the song. And so decided to make “hot” masters recorded audio whose volume is artificially boosted to make them stand out more when they are played. This came to be regarded as a really good idea, so they kept doing it. We have labored under the impression that the audio on CDs is as good as it gets, but in reality, they are shining examples of artificially loud music – the boosted track required less digital space, and so it made sense to use this technique to cram in as many songs as possible. The worst part is that even through the audio CD, for all practical purposes, is dead, this practice continues. So, even though you can get yourself the best equipment, the best equipment the old garbage-in-garbage-out rule applies, and all that money would be spent for naught. But does this matter? When we take in to account economics, the demands of consumers, and other such factors that have nothing to do with technology, we come to one key phrase… Good enough - If you, like so many of us, like your music in your pocket while you travel, do you really think – even with sound cancelling headphone – that you are ever cared that the music is artificially “enhanced “? A sound gasm may be highly desirable, but its lack isn’t really going to tear the world in two. If you can get joy out of sound without caring that bitrates it’s reaching you at, then you probably aren’t even bothered about what this article is saying. If we demand great technology, it may or may not come. At least there will always be great music.

Review:
'Sarphira Sa Hai Dil'
This can be perhaps called the best track of the album which may be the reason for it being chosen for the trailers. A good choice of course. The song is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Neeraj Shridhar. neeraj who has sung chartbusters for Pritam proves his mettle with this song that he can repeat the same with other music directors also. The song is definitely going to be a chartbuster. Shreya has given her best in the song

Tera Intezaar
The next song Tera Intezaar sung by Vijay Prakash and Gayatri Ganjawalla sounds more like a remix version. I hope sandesh has not forgot to include composition of the original or misplaced the remix for the original. The song by Vijay Prakash is more soft and lovely one . The track is surely next best.Vijay Prakash has the makings of another Hariharan .The singer who has sung mostly with AR Rahman is surely going to find his place with others also

Bhoore Bhoore Badal
Bhoore Bhoore Badal has Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal singing. The song reminiscea one of the popular tracks Gori tera gaon bada pyara from Chitchor of Rajshri productions. The song is very nice and one feels like being in jungle listening to the beats and the chirpy expressions in the song. This song is sure to look out for.

LOVE U MR. KALAKAAR
The title song sung by Kunal Ganjawalla is more like a situational song and the lyrics summarize the character and characterization. The difficulties faced by kalakaar in corporate world is the essence of the lyrics which is of course not so hummable lyrics. The song's remembrance is only the phrase Love you Mr kalakaar. Gayatri Ganjawalla has sung with Kunal which does not make much of difference. The track her rock arrangements and is hummable and light.

Kahin  se Chali aa
The song is sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shibani Kashyap. While Mohit owns the song with his vocals, Shibani seems so much uncomfortable. It feels like a lot of effort on her part to keep her voice on soft pitch for this song. The singer who proved her best with the songs like “Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa” and title track of Zinda seemed wrong choice for this song.Mohit's voice is very soothing and natural in the song.

Tera Intezaar(Revisited)
Reeky Dev’s revisited Tera Intezaar is not bad.His vocals are impressive that mixes well to the resounding DJ antics. The song sounds similar to Tu jaane Na from Ajab Prem ki Ghazab kahani. It is difficult to pickup which is the best original or revisited. However this song may not be featured in the movie and may be simply restricted in back ground considering the fate of revisited songs.

Reaching for the Rainbow

This is just the english version of Sarphira track from the album. The song is sung by Jenice Sobti and Vinnie Hutton. It is completely soothing . The song may not be that much of a hit considering our audience prefer hindi tracks only. The trend may just pickup by including atleast one english track in every album . However the hindi version sounds best compared to English may be due to Neeraj's vocals.

Overall, Love u Mr Kalakaar is decent album and does meet one's expectations from the flick considering it is no big budget extravaganza. The songs are simple and sweet .
My pick of Best tracks of the album: Sarphira Sa Hai Dil,Bhoore Bhoore Badal,Tera Intezaar
Ratin 3 out of 5 stars
