Today's youngsters are far better informed, they have huge social connections, they have very good attitudes, and they are also quite smart at work, and they are very much alive to the kind of opportunities available to them.
Yet, many of them also tend to go on the wrong path, they are not able to take on the challenge of the unknown, and are absolutely unable to cope with stress. Most take to alcohol almost as a habit. A big number of them also take to drugs.
Among the rich classes, it is common for women also, to consume alcohol, and get across for even premarital relationships or extra marital relationships, where they simply wreck havoc on the legally married wife.
The more dangerous trend is to just reject anything and everything that is a cultural norm, for several centuries, as "outdated" and simply rebel against any such norm. This gives sleepless nights to the parents, who are no more able to control children at all, even in the tier two and tier three towns.
For example, the children start to consume junk food, when the parents are too busy to attend to their food habits. Once this becomes a set pattern, there are other health problems that follow, and the most undesirable consequences occur. The craze for cinema and all their heroes makes even girl children very vulnerable to the most dangerous of practices, including sex before marriage.
The urban society is slowly decaying, due to a variety of such influences.
While the magnitude of the problem may not be very serious at the moment, it indeed is, for all practical purposes. We should learn to counsel the children, and the services of trained counselors can be easily obtained.
Today, there are many colleges that offer the Master's Degree in Social Work course, with a specialization in psychiatric social work. In the second year itself, the students are taught the techniques of counseling in a very good way.
The services of these students can be obtained absolutely free of cost. All that the parents need to do, is to seek out the services of these students by approaching the colleges concerned. The trained counselors, who guide the students are very intelligent too, and they can also offer help.
Another avenue is the hospitals where the services of trained professionals, are available. The nature of these services may vary from hospital to hospital, but the services are indeed available.
What one needs to do, is to understand that counseling can indeed help.Firstly, counseling will inform the students and the youngsters that going away from the regular path is not the right solution.Secondly, the youngsters are very likely to find a good friend, philosopher and guide in the counselors, who are mostly women from very good backgrounds. This will help them to easily open out and ventilate their problems.
Thirdly, once the realization dawns upon the youngsters, it is possible to simply reduce the magnitude of the problem, and see that the youngsters return to normal life.
Fourthly, the counselors will simply wean away the youngsters from all environmental influences, and this does save the youngsters in a big way.
Society shows no mercy to youngsters who do not conform to the normal cultural ways of behaving and tolerating others. Youngsters are the most vulnerable lot in today's conditions.
Let us do something to stop them from going the wrong way. The sooner we do it, the better, not only for the youngsters, but for the entire society as well.
