Never say yes when you are suppose to say no.
The mixture of yes where no is desirable and no where yes is acceptable are the causes of few circumstances.
Man in a potent desire, forgetting cheap popularity feel that yes will give benefits. Partly true. But saying yes all the time means shattering energy for doing few things in an excellent manner. Cultivate the habit of saying yes when it is necessary. If others can do refrain from yes group and if you cannot contribute substantially merely saying yes means actually nothing in practice. Show the boldness of saying no if the capacity and resources are not matching for the job. So yes where it is necessary and no where it is necessary should be repeatedly told to mind.
Cultivate the habit of saying ‘yes’/ ‘no’ whenever and wherever necessary. Never say ‘yes’ when you are suppose to say ‘no’ and vice versa. The habit of saying ‘yes’ all the time will make you fritter your energy away mostly on multiple and futile projects. Have the courage to say no when you feel your capacity and resources do not match the job entrusted to you.
Say yes where it can do better things and no where results are not better. Thus one should have guts to say no and willingness to say yes. Yes with grace and no with reasoning will be yardstick of displaying the best and allowing others to do better. There are no golden rules for either yes or no. Each person should interpret the situation and apply the basis of yes for yes and no for no.
Paint me as I am.
The above is a very golden principle of keeping an individual’s state of mind healthy, active and cheerful. Let us ponder further.
A person called on a great philosopher with a view to draw his portrait. The philosopher agreed but on following conditions.
A) Paint me as I am.
B) Paint me not as others want me to be.
C) Never paint me as I want to be.
In many issues for keeping our mind strain free we can keep the mind above governing rules. ‘A’ above is a fact. Generally we perform many activities for impressing others. Nobody knows how far we succeed in impressing others, but everybody knows that acts done to impress others result in futile exhibition of and avoidable drain our energy. Experienced and intelligent people can see through our pose, they can easily separate the grain from the chaff. Interestingly, these very people will appreciate our actions when they are transparent, when our efforts are genuine.
Our great masters have always taught us to live life without coating, since the coating will vanish whereas the real stuff is going to remain for long. Somebody has said, “Work hard and keep low profile”. Thus all preaching and sayings, observations depreciate exhibition and glorification of oneself.
Above parameters may not be applicable in all features of life. However each individual should think once, twice of the purpose of magnifying or shying away or on realistic basis. No discount, no premium but as is, where is should be a fair rule for keeping the life scale within tolerable measurements.
Divided we fall, united they stand.
The above phrase has been redrafted. The general phrase stands such as, “United we stand, divided they fall”. Of course there is gain but we understand the penalty likely to be awarded if we fail to unite. Unity is strength. Split or division definitely scores negativity. Generally we understand reward and punishment theorem. Sometimes reward is paying and sometimes penalty are taken as a signal for correction.
Somewhere it is mentioned that community means come-in-unity. Working together gives the strength. In a group, understanding is very material. Sometime playing a major role and otherwise preference for minor role are sometimes essence for being united. Let us therefore supplicate our thinking for injecting the spirit of unity, fraternity and comradeship. The unity also suggests a graceful acceptance for better and better achievements. Disharmony should be a core theme in office culture, homefront. It is said that,’ man build house and woman make it a home’. Thus more then brick and plinth, unionism is essential for converting house to home. For building unity, develop the skill of compromises. In fact the word compromise includes promise. For scintillating joy, unity will be a good foundation.
The test of food does not lie in the chemistry but on the taste
of tongue.
How meaningful the above expression is! We mostly attach importance for process and at times miss the flavors. Process is necessary but the extraction of output is very much required. In all walks of life we generally give emphasis on destination and seldom enjoy the journey i.e. reaching a place of destination is our primary aim. Nevertheless in a mode of travel say bus or train we should enjoy chitchatting and friendly gestures with co passengers. This will make our journey delightful, will reduce the boredom of the journey and will ensure many other gains as well. The above expressions suggests that to adjudge the dish tasty, one has to take into considerations many factors including the processing, cooking of the dish as also the appetite of the eaters etc. Likewise, good ornaments, costly boxes, attractive toys are merely objects and in themselves they do not conduce to an individual’s enjoyment of these things. Only such individuals having a genuine understanding of and liking for these things can make the best possible. The conversion of exercise to joy depends on how one perceives the activity. The work for wages should be decoded as work for worship. The job for wages is material but job and joy are purely desirable phenomena. Each one of us can view the chemistry of food and taste of tongue from different angle. By developing this idea we can opt for smart work rather then hard work. Success and satisfaction should be criteria for removing boredom, substituting mission for target and relationship into unionism.
Always give without remembering and receive
without forgetting
What an eloquent expression! Help become a graceful subject to left hand not knowing what right hand has parted with. So when we give, donate, assist, following norms need to be adhered to.
1) Forget instantly what has been given.
2) Keep reasonable expectation of return.
3) Keep in mind that you have simply given to somebody. Infact the provider is elsewhere. ‘He’ helps through you. Train the mind that, help is passing through me. This factor will tame ego factor.
4) It will enable us to understand after help with grace, assistance with affection, donation without glamour means understanding that we are only carrier between the Almighty and the group where supply is being made.
Sometimes we give less but we expect more. If it doesn’t come we start expressing opinions which somewhere stop us from becoming charitable. Excess with us needs to be flown to those who are in need. Where, when, how much are the individual’s index. It is said, “Charity begins at home and charity ends at home”. The dynamics of this proverb is if you get an impulse of helping, offering, do it instantaneously. Never get carried by others who may be non donors. Charity is a joy of individual. It can’t be regimented. The more we give, the more we receive. The receiving may be either in physical forms or through good gestures and acts of goodwill.
Life is a journey where give and take and also take and give are but natural. When we give we must have a sense of gratitude of those who help us. There should be hidden agenda of praising our helper. This is developing a sense of gratitude may be in the express terms or may be in the other mode. We must thank provider and should be able to glorify even the small assistance by others. We should do something for the welfare of helper. However giving and receiving should be limited to trade. Human applications of mind, understanding the aspect of love are the driving forces of giving without remembering and receiving without forgetting.
I know the right but I follow the wrong.
Let us go deeper into the above statement. In fact the above statement is contradictory. Nevertheless it does suggest that if mind is not cooperative how wrong path is chosen. I know the right then why am I not doing right? Following angles are needed to be explored:
I) I know the right may be a false feeling, may be an impulse also. If a holistic view is taken perhaps right or less right may be the signals the mind would like to indicate. Think before you talk and doubly think before you act are the golden rules for addressing many important and ticklish situation.
II) Generally we feel right because others are feeling right. Is it fair? Not much application of mind and hence confusion between our sense of right and wrong.
III) Looking good or feeling good or being good are the three posers man should ask to himself. Infact utmost importance should be given to being good only for display purposes or quick responses or clapping purposes. These do give some results but for a while.
IV) If we are really right then what prevents us from pursuing the right path and avoiding the wrong path? May be duality of thought process or lack of ownership are the causes for right purpose and wrong activities. Think before you talk. Give weightage to silence in conversation. Do not jump for reaction; silently mould the mind that you are right. Thus pause, taming the mind would narrow the gap between real right and cola waves of mind for only looking right and not feeling right. Uncalled for advice, rushing for a judgment means inviting penalties. Thus silence is a golden rule when mind and body are on varying think line. The silence with a purpose means avoiding future complications. The utterances without thinking mean landing into an area of, ‘I never meant like that’, ‘sorry’, ‘excuse’ and more.
Thus the above maxim can produce telling effects. In our day to day activity apply this formula may not be for solving but dissolving many cumbersome issues. At any rate cent percent results are not expected but wrong and right should be understood before saying and acting.
Beyondness
The above English word suggests multiple features. Man waste his time on yesteryear events, looses his energy in working out and particularly shaping tomorrow but in the process looses the joy of today. It does not mean that we should have blank memory for yesterday or no concern for tomorrow. No. There is continuity among yesterday, today and tomorrow. How much weightage is to be given to time aspect is a moot point. It is said yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and let us enjoy today as a gift.
Now looking beyond is another sermon, very useful to enjoy and forget. We have to dwell upon this in ongoing paragraphs.
a) Looking beyond mean enjoying and storing. Looking beyond means income counter, expenditure counter and importantly enjoyment counter.
b) Before appointing our sole aim was to get a job. We got the job. Now after obtaining jobs, we should try hard to enjoy our jobs, we should try to become familiar with the various aspects and features of our jobs, we should ask queries and find out the answers to our questions. Looking beyond salary means developing expertise in the trade and earning goodwill from colleagues, bosses and clients.
c) When we take food, we should also look beyond taking food. Looking beyond food mean enjoying the food and getting energy from the food.
d) We should also look beyond retirement. As per the norms a day of retirement
is fixed for all workers. During the service a mental preparation for days
after retirement, financial position after retirement, cultivating some useful
habit means ensuring a relaxed superannuation period. This will be possible
by enlarging friends circle during service period, developing the habits of reading and thinking and associating oneself with some satsanga and more.
This clubbed together means preparation during service period for making
life comfortable after retirement.
There can be numerous examples in anybody’s life when he should think for present and future. The striking balance between present and future is, he spends but saves, earns but enjoys, quarrels but have the sportsmanship of agreeing also. He enlarges his activities at the same time he develops a knack of withdrawal. In simple words, one should always ask what is next. In the lighter mode we can say, we take dinner partly for dinner sake but importantly for inviting sleep. Thus beyond dinner the important agenda is sleep. Do you agree? Thus looking beyond means deriving more benefits from doing that job and conserving some wisdom and energy for better aspect which infact is a better activity for consigned assignment.

We therefore wish all, young and old, workers and businessmen to look ‘beyond’ aspect in simple form or otherwise. If this is translated into action, some small loss may be a greater gain for tomorrow. Loss here gain there means taming the anger aspect skillfully. Always gain is not relishable, and always loss is not acceptable. But the law of nature means a mixture of gain and loss. Man should develop his own dictionary of substituting gain for loss by applying mode of looking beyond. Looking beyond means attempt to forget events of yesteryears and also drawing the map of tomorrow on a realistic scale. The art of living on a good mode means art of forgetting (bad events) and dreaming for future on sound basis. The realistic drawings of tomorrow means less shocks. Today was tomorrow for yesterday; tomorrow will be today and today will be yesterday tomorrow. Looking beyond mean seeking greater gain and lasting joy may be by sacrificing today’s little pain.
