Dimensions & Motion
Dimension: Dimension is the measurement of an objects regards with its mass, length and time.
It is also defined as the coordinates which can define the size of object.
Dimensional Formula: Dimensional formula gives the powers of mass ,length and time which are raised to attain the unit of any physical quantity.
Here I am describing dimensional formulas of few common and important physical quantities which are used in general terms.
Rest:An object is said to be at rest when it remains in the same position . When the object does not changes its position it is called to be at rest.
Example: Stone on the hill
Motion:An object is said to be in motion when it covers some distance or when an object changes its postion with time it is called in motion.
Example:moving car, Running ball.
Types of motion:
One Dimensional Motion:When an object moves in one direction only or when in the x-axis .The motion is said to be one dimensional. Example: running train
Two Dimensional Motion: When an object moves in two directions or we can say that when an object moves in x-axis and in y-axis simultaneously it said to be two dimensional motion.
Example:Crawling insect.
Three Dimensional Motion: When an object moves in three axis or in space it is called three dimensional motion.
Example: Motion of aeroplane.
Uniform Motion: When an object moves equal distances in equal intervals of time it is called uniform motion . For example: Take an object which covers 5 meters in 10 seconds . Then in next 5 seconds it again covers 5 meters of distance then again n again .This is called uniform motion.
Non Uniform Motion: When an object covers equal distance in unequal interval of time or unequal distance in equal intervals of time .It is called non-uniform motion.For example: Take an object which covers 10 meters in 7 seconds and next 10 meters in 12 seconds .this is non uniform motion.
Velocity: Velocity is the ratio of displacement with time or it is also defined as the rate of change of displacement is called velocity
Velocity=Displacement/Time
Displacement is same as the distance but the difference is that displacement is the shortect distance in a particular direction.
