Description: The place Maihar is most famous for one of the 51 Shaktipeeth, Maa Sharda Devi Temple, which is located 40 kms from Maihar whereas the Shaktipeeth is located just 5 km away. It is at an elevation of 600 ft. above sea level. The deity of this temple, Maa Sharda, is also known by name Saraswati and she is considered Goddess of knowledge. The idol of God Narsimha also stays in the temple. These idols were situated in 502 A.D. by Nupula Deva .A stone carving here has a image of Maa Saraswati’s son, Damodra, who is considered to be Sage Vyasa of Kalyuga. Holy thread is tied round a tree near the temple. Famous historic, Hindu personalities, Alha and Udal also have their name related to this place. It is considered that they called the Goddess by the name Sharda and so she was named forever . A lake, named Alha, is located in lower hill, which shows his devotion.2 kms from there lies Alah-Udal Akhada, a place where Indians practice wrestling.
