The writing industry is fast developing in India, there are many well established writers and many more young writers are coming up. But somehow I feel that the quality is being hampered due to the instant growth of the writing industry. Earlier we had lesser but quality books but now we have large number of books but the quality . ...what do you think?

The lack of quality in writing is attributable to 'instant growth of writing industry'. True writing is spontaneous expression of emotions and thoughts. Writing can not be industry. Technical or professional writing is on different footing and is different from literary and philosophical writing. A true writer does not write for money. These days you write for getting ad sense revenue.
Earlier writers used to approach the publishers to get their works published. Now there is sea change in the publishing scenario with the advent of E- publishing. Now any Tom,Dick and Harry can publish his own book. Owing to this , quality has nose dived.

Writing is creative work. It is art. We cann't expect quality writing from writer who are writing only to earn. Second thing writing is bad or good all is depend on choice. From some one Munsi Prem Chand is genious writer for some one he is boring writer.
Greed for Money corrupts everything...earlier people wrote because it was a their way of expressing themselves and about their views on the society and their surroundings. Money was incidental but now money is the priority and one writes to attract more views or to become popular and on topics that sell the most...No wonder there is no soul in such writings !
It's a tough call commenting on the quality of current works on literature as I am terribly short on knowledge about them but one thing that can reasonably said is whatever is best is always a few. We can not have assembly line production of immortal classics!!!
True, that is quite an accurate observation you have made. The reason why the earlier books were really the best in terms of quality and content is because almost all of those were written based upon the experiences of the authors themselves. Many of the great writers underwent through numerous life-changing experiences or were thoroughly immersed into the subjects that they wrote about. But now we see that the 'growth of writing industry' has given rise to instant writers who mostly write not of what they experience but of what they read from others. The firsthand feeling of the subject is missing from such books! And that does make it quite impersonal and hence fail to touch our hearts like the classics do.
Writing is good, a society is recognized through its literary achievements, on the other hand writing is creative and spontaneous and for this a proper environment in writing is a necessity, writing is a complex matter, where the writer should write while judging on the thinking side of readers. With the advent of high speed internet, and web 3.o, many new aspirant writers publishing their works on Amazon kindle or other self publishing mediums. It is the quality that matters, as once a thinker said, Newton did not see the apple falling from tea, he imagined this and then brought out his theory of gravitation. Writing is such and such, the writer have to create a world for the entire reader masses and try to strive the real fiction out of it.

Very true. That's why Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Perhaps the changing times, number of increased readers, reading preferences and demand and supply has changed writing styles. But ultimate truth is only writer that sells will survive in the end.

Above all the factors, "Self Publishing" and easy availability of selling outlets are the reasons for overwhelming turnover of "Writers". Once these two factors were (Even now) under the strict control of the Publishers. Unless a writer comes up with the Quality stuff (According to the Publishers' quality norms ), A book will never see the light.
Now with the availability of Self publishing and availability of selling outlets within everybody's reach. the quality of Books has gone down.
Whenever we monetize something drastically with no quality control in place, things always seem to go out of hand. With self-publishing platform like Amazon, Createspace etc. writers are churning out 1 book/week (No Kidding, I know them). How can you possibly write a book of decent quality in a week! They rely heavily on their marketing efforts and also the consuming behavior of their audience. Most people now read books on Kindle or other ebook reader and they don't prefer reading more than 200-300 pages on it.

I think the trend will continue for atleast 2-3 more years before some quality checks are introduced.
This trend will continue because, there are no visible signs of self - publishing avenues in the net being abated. In the future, they will be increasing more because this is the best opportunity for the enthusiastic writers to see their works published without shedding a drop of sweat.
The quality of books like the quality of films has drastically come down. One can only blame the changed public taste for this....Even trash packaged superbly sells these days but a well written content with no hype gets looked over....

It will make no difference to people who are interested in good books or standard literature because there is no shortage of such work as well. people will find out good quality work, the world is big enough.

Agreed Sunil. There is no dearth of good writers either... Times are changing and yes with the indepedendt social media, people are coming out with their talents... So there will be some bad quality stuff around, but with time it will keep getting better...
