I have seen many people wanting to have a National language for India. Right now. English is fulfilling that need although it is a foreign language. Will it be good to have a national language from one of the many Indian languages ? And if it is any other language other than your spoken language or mother tongue ,will you accept it ? If not give reasons..

@ rambabu , since I initiated this thread let me be the judge of what comes under the purview of this discussion and I feel that there is nothing wrong in discussing related matters on my thread ! We need to give space for each member , letting them make their own decisions rather than post for everyone on all threads and responding on their behalf ..
I agree. when the member has deviated from the original topic, He was talking about "English is a funny language." I'm convinced that his topic is irrelevant in the present context. If you see my earlier comments you can understand how much space i have given to the concerned member.

Please let me be the judge here as to what is relevant and what is not...I don't see anything wrong in responding to other members comments and one cannot set a limit to ones comments as long as it is not abusive or in bad taste ...
I think India is still in a follower mode. Our Initial National Language was Sanskrit, Mughals imposed Persian Language on India and made it National Language of India, then came Britishers who also imposed their own language English on India and even after so many years of Independence we are still following it and could not have our own National Language.
Hindi and Englisg bothcater to the need of link language. Hindi is spokenor understood in most parts of the country. English is also ised in entire country. May be invery remote area, English and Hindi both are not known. But mostly people don't go to such places. To elucidate, a North Indian may go to Shillong (Meghalaya) and can communicate in Hindi or English. Possibly, there would be many in adjoining villages knowing only local language. But an outsider is not likely to go there.

True sir. I stayed in many places and successfully able to interact with the people using either Hindi or English or both at times.

Then why we needto declare any language as national. Despite foreign origin, English is our national language just as Sonia Gandhi is our national leader. Although not declared national, anything used everywhere in nation is national.

Sir, the very purpose of any language is 'Communication." there is no need to think or declare a National language as long as any language measures up to the purpose of a language.

There is no need to bring Sonia Gandhi into this since there are still quite a few question marks about her ? and to compare her to our national issue is not right since she has nothing to do with Indian languages ...
Tolerance is a great virtue, which is usually expected from others. The moment it is said Hindi could be declared a national language , the tolerance of non Hindi speaking goes down considerably. Similar would be the case if say Tamil or Telugu would be declared a sole national language for non Tamil/Telugu speaking persons. In light of this intolerance it would be prudent to declare English as a national language. After all Hindi movies are all the time coming under English names. The titles of Hindi movies are in English only. In the vegetable market most of the vegetables are known by their English names. People always demanding chicken, meat or fish or prawn not by their local names. If you care fully observe no one speaks in Hindi or local language 100%. After every two or tree words their are English words in the sentence. As usual most of us being hypocritical do not accept the reality. By declaring English as a national language we will be doing a great service to the weaker sections who today are deprived of studying english right from class 1 or 2. Then English will be taught from class 1 all over the country. This will give a level playing field to all children all over the country. Children shall study their mother tongue and Hindi also but as second and third language. I wish it could happen.
(By the way if one does not like Sonia Gandhi or Indira Gandhi why broadcast it in the forum at regular intervals.)
Why should members bring in Sonia Gandhi in a discussion which concerns National language , she is not a language expert or for that matter is anyway connected to the topic LOL ...Some people love Modi bashing at the slightest given opportunity and some love to periodically start discussion on the so called saffron brigade bashing everybody around, so hardly matters here when once in a while someone else be it fake Gandhis or whoever gets spoken about when there is need to do so.
Prey how is Sonia a fake Gandhi. If Sonia is not a language expert are we? Gulshanji brought Sonia in the context of acceptability of foreign language and persons by many Indians (you exempted). He surely is entitled to do so. This forum has not yet been taken over by right wingers or has it been.
It is very difficult to choose one language from English and Hindi. Because Hindi lovers oppose declaring English as National language and non -Hindi speaking people oppose Hindi to be declared as National language.
After independence both Hindi and English were declared as National language and it was decided to put an end to English use some years later. But it was not possible and we are continuing with both languages.

There is no denying the fact that English language has a universal appeal and is the language of all our education systems , so there is no question of putting an end to it. Hindi on the other hand is spoken largely in only the northern states and hardly used in Southern states so it is but natural that people from the southern states are averse to it, so there is no ready solution to it.I guess it is wiser to continue with English and Hindi as official languages .
