Religion is more like an institution but belief in God gives people the strength to face difficulties in life .What ultimately matters in life is one's own faith and belief, it could be anything...Some believe in nature and some in godmen and so on...What is important is that most people need to draw strength from something that inspires them..

I am already exhausted in answering God and beliefs thread

I trust in Mother Nature and love her up to the extent that I can stay in her lap without asking for any thing else.

I had been straying allover the world just to find some more beauty and fulfill myself.
God and religion are deep rooted and even the highest educated person including scientists have some sort of faith in these concepts. However, religion does not help rational and just thinking, preventing crimes. In fact, many crimes like honor killing of boys and girls, Sati sysem, animal or even human sacrifice before deity can be attributed to religion. It can not be said that the more religious and devotees are in fact better and honest citizens also. The worst cheats thank God for the opportunity to cheat.
This particular topic never ceases to come up! Quite naturally reflecting the sway its holds on our minds. To make my answer short,I'd just remaining true to my conscience is my religion!
This depends on a person's mindset and upbringing. I agree that deep down some where every one feels and accepts the existence of some one who is looking over us, that is good because that creates sense of security and confidence, but the level of trust is different for different persons.

I am reminded of Janardhan Reddy , the politician now languishing in a prison cell on charges of mining scam - he had offered a diamond crown worth 32 crores to Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala...
There are so many such instances, who is going to keep account of them. here is no use.

That 'somebody' (God) looking after! whom. He looks after crocodile and fish both, tiger as well as lamb. I don't understand how fish and lamb can feel security from an entity, who is 'equally fair' to crocodile and tiger. False trust helps nobody.

This is natural, god has made food for every one and then nature is run by balancing. You see if these animal wont live and eat the way there were made to act, this earth would become overloaded. That is law of nature, God has nothing to do in that, although I am not a blind follower. I love only nature or Durga maa.

In my opinion , It is far more important to be a good citizen and a good human being rather than be just a religious person . I know many non believers who are the best of people and many believers who feel that they can get away with anything in life...

To me it's more of an inner feeling than anything else and endless debates and discourses, scoring brownie points in them, seem meaningless to me. It's just not possible to cover its vast gamut in the narrow space of a forum!
Both angles are true and genuine- let them have both sides their say. After all the forums are meant for this purpose only.
On this earth , everyone have their own manner of god. some worship their work as god, some earth, some air, some water, some nature, some god forms. So everyone have their own and different importance of god and religion.

but we should love our religion and god and we should respect others god and religion
