Considering the harmful side of smoking and our society getting infected with it like a deadly disease I will be more than happy if it is going to be banned...
There should not be any second thoughts on banning this pernicious form of tobacco consumption. It's a silent killer and the nation as a whole has been bearing huge cost for it.
All agree that smoking is harmful. So mot only smoking but tobacco in all forms should be banned. As regards individual freedom, many states have prohibited alcohol and there is nothing wrong in prohibiting tobacco as well.

If you believe that ban will not work, ban should not be enforced. Smokers have their liberty. They get adequate warning on cigarette packs and through media. If they still smoke, let them. But they should care about others. It is commendable that smoking in public place is banned. Passive smoking affects non smokers also. The spouse and other family members should also force the smokers not to smoke near family members to safeguard against passive smoking.

In India blanket banning has not worked and proved counterproductive and rather served the cause of these companies. I think mass awareness and strict enforcement of whatever laws we have can produce the desired effects!
