At last, Nepal is secular republic. This is a very big advancement from Hindu monarchy state. Let us hope that the new secular republic of Nepal will prosper and flourish. However the new Republic is facing some issues mainly Madheshi regiuonal issues. Madhesi are mostly in Tarai reguion adjoining Bihar.

Whenever I visited Nepal I found its people very friendly but same was not the case during my visit in 2009. I think the Nepal is more influenced by China and the relations with India will further deteriorate. I am sorry to see the only nation that was associated with Hindus has lost its status. Medheshi Community that worked real hard for uplifting Nepal has been treated too badly in its new constitution.

Let's hope that Nepal's political leaders will display the necessary flexibility and maturity at this crucial time to ensure a durable and resilient Constitution that has broad-based acceptance.

Since a majority of the people have voted for it, it is a good development but whether it will be a good development or not has to be seen. There is bound to be some friction when a new change takes place , as long as it does not explode into some thing bigger and leads to unrest.I visited Kathmandu a few months before the devastating earth quake , earlier this year and found it a lovely nation with very friendly people ..

Friction and opposition are inevitable when there a NEW thing is introduced.. People have their suspicions and doubts. Only time will prove the benefits or losses.

Lets hope something good will happen, as it our close neighbor so the situation in Nepal will have effect on India also.

True. It's highly essential to have a friendly neighbor, which in turn makes our country peaceful. But right now the situation cannot be predicted, what would be outcome of the newly introduced Constitution.

One cannot forget the Maoist influence in Nepal which was the cause of abolishing the monarchy and causing a lot of unrest there. There is also fear that Madhesi and Tharu groups may continue their struggle together now that they are forming an alliance to fight against the constitution.Looks like there will be a lot of unrest  in the region, thats for sure !

Maoist influence, Madhesi and Tharu grops opposition were there since long. The present constitution is well aware of these aspects. So, it has to be seen now how the authors of the Constitution are going to handle the old issues and make Nepal as real secular country.

There is a news that Cow has been declared as national animal of Nepal and there will be ban on cow slaughter.  The republic is new. Let us hope that they will gradually sort out differences between different ethnic communities.

MEA says India cautioned about unrest in Nepal. Additionally,  the Government of Nepal should have taken the step for curbing violence in a phased manner, the situation would not have been so worse.

Nepal rebuffed India's advice on their Constitution. I am amused by forum members welcoming secular Nepal while they generally condemn secularism in India!!!

But today i read in the news that MEA has cautioned the Nepal government, to stop the violence in a phased manner, in order to implement secularism in the constitution.

A new secular republic is our neighbor....

Secularism comes with a price and Nepal may realise this fact soon enough. When they had a Hindu nation things were clear as far as their agenda and policies were concerned and there would have been little interference since the majority almost 97% of the population was hindus. Secularism being a two edged sword would create its own problems ..

Why, India should bother if Nepal adopts secularism or not ? And if India thinks we will not have a peaceful neighbor. Let it be. Are we living peacefully with a hostile country like Pakistan, where there is no secularism ?

Indian government has cautioned Nepal government because, the violence that eructed may spread to Bihar which has a border line with India. But Bihar did not hear us. India is not cooperating with Nepal in this regard.

Nepal is a new Republic. I hope these are teething problems. The Nepal Government and people will ultimately resolve their problems. Some member has atated that the new constitution is not acceptable. This is a very wrong view. Nepal is a sovereign state and we cannot interfere with their choice.  some would be happy if Nepal remained a Hindu state. Thee are also some who want revival of monarchy. But it is their choice.  we must respect their choice and not interfere with their sovereignty.

Irrespective of others wishes and views, its always better to stay away from other country's internal matters. And  India should stay away from Nepal's internal matters.

So many elements incl those in power do not follow our own constitution but are full of advise to Nepal regarding its new constitution. What is surprising to many is that 97% Hindu Nepal has chosen to be secular. This is the true essence of Hinduism.

True. Advising is the easiest job. It doesn't attract any tax. Minding our own business or remaining neutral is the best course.
