I wish you a Happy Durga puja to you and your family members. I am well conversant with Bengal culture because most of my friends are Bengalis. Durga Puja cannot be celebrated with the same intensity by those Bengalis who live outside Bengal because of many reasons. The major reason is all the material required for the Puja especially the Murti or the idol and Dhak players. Owing to these reasons, Bengalis who live i Outside Bengal. Of course the devotion remains the same.

@usha manohar and all the other forum members, kindly accept my greetings on Durga Puja. It is indeed a great time for Bengalis and the Bengalis like me who stay outside Bengal miss a lot. Though in Delhi, Bihar and other cities where Bengali community is in huge number, they do celebrate the festival quite pompously. The intensity of the festive spirit is undoubtedly less than Bengal but still it is worth visiting the puja pandals.

I cannot think of another Chief Minister as corrupt or self centered as the one who is ruling our state Karnataka. On the one hand farmers have been committing suicide because of drought and  because they are unable to repay their loans and Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah  periodically pays lip service, that too when he is reminded by the media and blames PM Modi for this state of affairs within his state . Many of the state government daily wage earners have not been paid for months , some for almost a year. And what does Siddaramaiah do ?   sends his MLAs on foreign tours and along with other Minsisters and MLAs demand free club membership in all the private clubs, has plans of building a palace for himself costing 25 crore rupees.. http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/karnataka/PWD-Plans-to-Build-Designated-House-for-Karnataka-CM-at-Rs-25-Crore/2015/09/29/article3052997.ece And as if that is not enough now the latest in his line of misadventures is a plan to allot nearly 2400 BDA house sites to politicians ...Do we really deserve such leaders ? If only we could leaders like him on a one way ticket to mars.. http://www.bangaloremirror.com/bangalore/others/Early-Diwali-for-netas-as-huge-profit-clearly-in-site/articleshow/49315185.cms

Each and every piece of information is very disturbing. What and whom to believe has become a big question. The movie has thrown light on a different aspect and that is said to be based on research. God knows what's right!

R. Rehman is one the best music composer. I don't much about his music but I listen songs of Rosa, Choti se Asha, very very nice one. Every music composer have their own style and flavor. No one should criticize. Jagjit shing is master of his style of music and Rehman is his own style. Yes of course they are both good in their own fields but generally Ghazal singers do have e a superiority complex because the songs they sing are lyrically more beautiful and meaningful and they may consider others below their own standards . However, majority of people like the kind of songs that are fast paced and entertaining..

Swetha Shenoy wrote: Hello Usha gaaru, thanks for the post, Happy Navratri to you Here in the newly formed Telangana, we do something called as 'Bathukamma' where a pot or vessal or plate is adorned with various flowers (known as saddula)and ladies (young, old, married, unmarried) form circles and dance with clap to Bathukamma  It is the newly recognized festival of Telangana Beautiful!! Your post reminded me of a long forgotten tradition of Maharashtrians during Navratri. It is called Bhondla in which a decorated statue of an elephant is kept or an elephant is drawn in rangoli and decorated with flowers. Around this, women and girls make circles and go around with hands held singling traditional songs. When I was in school, we enjoyed it almost every year because after all the songs were sung, we would get a treat of lots of sweets and savouries, but first we had to guess what was in the covered dishes. If we got it right, we got double the share. But now hardly any one celebrates it for the Garba and Ras Dandiya fever has caught on to every one.

Hello friends!  I want to share with you some English Puns, which are quite funny. I request you all to keep adding if you find some, let us build a dictionary of puns!   Rambabu, Chinmoy, Usha, Kalyani, Sunil......lets exploit our brains for Puns!  Pun: meaning -The pun, also called paronomasia, is a form of word play that suggests two or more meanings, by exploiting multiple meanings of words, or of similar-sounding words, for an intended humorous or rhetorical effect. Pun 1 Donot give a hi-5 to a snake, woh tumhe dus dega!    Pun 2  Employee to Boss: Boss, I need hike Boss: ok download from google play   Pun 3 Atheism is a non-prophet organization.

Kalyani Nandurkar wrote: Hi Usha, Navratri greetings to you and all the members of boddunan. In Maharashtra, we have Ghat Sthapana in our homes which basically celebrates the nurturing and sustaining nature of the the feminine power of Mother Earth and the Godesses Durga, Kali, Amba, parvati, Saraswati, Mahalaxmi etc. all of whom are manifestations of this divine, feminine power. Ghat is basically nothing but an earthern pot which is placed over a basket filled with earth in which seeds of nine grains are planted. The water from ghat permeates the soil and in nine days the grain grows into healthy saplings. It is a kind of tribute to earth that produces food and sustains us. On tenth day, the saplings are offered to god. It is a belief of the farmers that the healthier the saplings are, the better the rabi crops will be. Kalyani, here in Karnataka too they have this custom, not in Mangalore though..In north Karnataka they arrange dolls with the statues of Goddesses and also have a tray or matki filled with saplings kept along with it.  @ vijay In Gujarat, Navratri is celebrated with great fervour and Garbas and Dandiya Ras are performed to beautiful music beats. Girls are dressed in  colorful lehnga choli and spectators throng to these venues in large numbers. TheGarbas of Vadodara are especially famous. however there are no holidays in educational institutes which looks a biy odd as it is the young who dance late into the night. Here in mangalore we have a sizeable Gujarat community mostly into business, who have been living here since many decades and they organise Dandia and Garba dancing , which I too attend. It is a lot of fun and ladies of all ages and sizes , not just Gujaratis and the youngsters have a blast for 9 days ..

What happen with it. I don't know but it may possible that some cash also attached with these  rewards. Are they refunding cash? It is only to come in to lime light.    Cash attached to the reward will not be refunded. That cash is meant for the rewardee's pocket .      Just I read one tweet that out of 10 person who return awards only two person refund cash. Today one person return Padamshree. Situation is not good, government should be resolve issue.
