It is however a fact hat intolerance is rising in India and it is not because of any one factor but because of many different issues coming together.Media too is responsible of blowing things out of proportion and the political parties especially with the kind of opposition parties we have, we dont need any enemies to the nation, they are worse than our traditional enemy Pakistan in many respects .They will not let any progressive step to be taken, keep on and on about non issues ,verbally abusing the Prime Minister and the other ministers for the flimsiest of reasons...

Yes the themes of the festivals of Varalaksmi Vratam and such festivals exclusively performed by women are same. That is Husband's welfare. May be some variations depending on the region.

People in different parts of the country celebrate festivals according to their beliefs. Here fast is done in different parts of country, and the festival is celebrated with different names. As you said Varalakshi Vratam is celebrated in AP, Tamil Nadu, and other parts. I think the theme is same but the name is different.

Karva Chouth is a festival which is observed by women mostly in Northern India. Women pray for the long life of the Husband. Though there are no such celebrations and festivals like Karva chouth, some festivals like Varalakshmi Vratam celebrated by women in AP, Tamil Nadu , Telengana and Karnataka.

Vinod Kumar Gulati created new topic Intolerance is on the rise in Indian socieety.

The Times of India quoted Nobel Laureate Kailsah Satyarthi having said on Friday that intolerance is on the rise and there is a dialogue deficit between the government and its people. Not only intolerance but fear and apathy has also risen in the society at large which is dividing it.

So far we were being made fool by the politicians on religious grounds to serve their vote bank policy by following the appeasement for some particular groups of the society. When opposing that appeasement policy was started for ensuring true secularism, that opposition is being branded as intolerance-rise. Why is a particular section of society being targetted when all of the Indians had been slave for centuries. The intolerance of one particular group was to happen as the patience of tolerance has a limit. One section can not keep mum if their brethren are being victimised in other parts of world and within India, on the religious grounds.

Now coming to this business of returing awards
I don't know whose brain child it was initially. He or
she must be very ecstasically elated at turning
others into a herd! As I commented elsewhere
that unlike in the West where many conscientious
objectors never salivate at the prospect of receiving
state awards lest should they barter their souls,
their Indian counterparts have a healthy appetite
for them. All we know Dev Kanta Baruah a leading
Assamese litterateur made us believe that Indira
was India,a creative genius!! Incidentally Indira
Gandhi was the promoter of concepts of "committed
judiciary" and committed intellectuals and so on.
The word 'Secular' entered the portal of Indian Constitution
at her behest as if Nehru was not sufficiently secular!
Talking about intolerance I want more of it! The
people of India have tolerated too much of hypocrisy
of politicians of all hues, double standards and
double speak of pseudo secularists.Go and unmask
them!!

The proposal of unification of India and Pakistan is for those people who wish India to follow the present policy of fake secularism in which certain political parties wish to follow the appeasement of muslims for the sake of the votes. As we have declared secularism, we must treat everyone at par, rather in our administrative policies, we must not ensure any kind of special facility to any one on the basis of his religion. No religion asks for its followers to remain backward by keeping away from education or technical advancements, or encroaching upon the rights of others. The geographical neighours can not be substituted but their attitude will have to be changed/adjusted but for that we have to set our home right. We have to admit that in national interests our political parties do not speak in one tone. If we wish for development of all, we need to ensure uniform policies for all at par. If we can not do it, why did we accept the partition in 1947? Thanks to all for the kind opinions.

You're eating beef openly and perhaps appeasing sentiments of a particular community. This is limit of vote catching technique of CPI which has nothing to do with Indian ideology.

@ Gulati: Your view are those of someone who wants to achieve many things simultaneously disregarding the realities as they exist or as they evolved. Just because Pakistan maltreated its minorities is that a reason that we should a;so do the same? Then in what way we are different and why should we condemn their brute behaviour? Secularism is a lofty principle and requires maturity and tolerance which was there till a few years. It got drowned in a maze of corruption and rise of alternate views gaining strength. That is politics. Are you sure that by declaring India a Hindu Rashtra all our problems will be resolved or do you want Pakistan type solutions to be adopted by India also. Whatever may be the view point, unification is not possible nor desirable. I have myself experienced the warm relations Indians and Pakistanis have with each other outside India where they feel comforted by each others presence. But back home the demons seem to take over.
