There are so many reports that prices of fruits and vegetables have shot up to huge levels, in Telengana, mainly because the new Capital of AP, has eaten away thousands of acres of highly fertile agricultural land.
Even when the Chief Minister of AP, Mr Chandrababu Naidu came out with his rather stupid plan of converting huge tracts of fertile agricultural land to build the new Capital, there was a big opposition from many quarters. However, he had gone ahead with his plan, and has now landed the State of AP and the neighboring State in huge trouble.
We should never destroy rich agricultural land. Wherever such lands have been used for other purposes, the results have always been disastrous. Let us stop this horrible practice. We do not need development of this kind. The best of economists and environmentalists should join together and ensure that such disasters do not happen again.

Can't say exactly. But Nehru was more popular. Again Patel lived very short. Whatever decision were taken, Nehru would be ultimately P.M. for good many years even if Patel were first P.M. It cannot be said that Patel would longer if he were first P.M.

There is a saying there is no smoke without fire similarly , so called rumors have some truth on which the rumors are based. The manner in which the Nehru family has been cultivated through the years shows a single minded dedication towards making India a family ruled proposition which seemed to have succeeded to a large extent , probably due to the ignorance of the masses and clever manipulation of the concerned political leaders ..
There are elements who would make vicious propaganda continuously and make others that there must be some truth as there is no smoke without fire. This is just technique of the rumor makers. Undoubtedly there has been continuous propaganda by fascist and saffron elements to malign the secular forces. They have spread canards against Nehru and Indira Gandhi dubbing them as 'Muslim'. Such vicious propaganda is available on U Tube. One such piece of propaganda is that Moti Lal Nehru's parents were Muslim and Firoz Gandhi, Indira Gandhi's husband was a Muslim even though he was Parsi. There is not only false propaganda against Nehru but this has also communal and fascist angle. the
It's a Historic fact, that Patel, through Police Action, merged all the Princely States with India. There was both Smoke and Fire.
I read in one book that Nehru was not assured that Indian army can push back to Pakistan army in short period and with limited sources. But Patel was assured and order to army chief for action in Kashmir.

Most of us have come across major calamities -- loss of valuables in a flood, sudden death of the bread winner or loss of job, for some reason or the other. Be that as that may be, the question is: how can be really get over major calamities?
Apart from saving enough for the rainy day, or trying to be as spiritual as possible, are there some other ways of coping with such calamities? Do the members of a particular society chip in with some sort of financial help in these matters? What is the experience of members in this regard? And what ideas or suggestions or strategies can we give to anyone caught up in such calamities?

Last week there was some expectancy with regard to changes in the functioning and rules of the forum. But now with Sunil's post about having resigned from his posts as moderator and editor and even the other moderators probably not being able to do anything much , one very much wonders what exactly is going on here ? Does'nt the admin want positive changes that would help the forum and its members ? or is there some other issue that I and other members are not aware of ?

The very fact that even a person like Gandhi could not be really fair in his allocation of personalities tells us how easy it is for masses an small time leaders to be swept away by glitter an glamour. They fail to see beyond that and think that is all that counts in a leader ..

One can only imagine and perceive other peoples feelings which may be right or wrong...
Came across this quote from Albert Einstein - "Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value."
Charles Darwin - "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
I guess success is not about making money or gaining power or perfection but also about survivial !

vijay replied to the topic Can inflation ever come down, and deposit rates go up?.
India is an emerging economy in which the supply and demand are ever changing unlike advanced countries where various economic variables have reached a plateau and thus corrective actions can be taken because of stability. In India due to expanding population and rising purchasing power of a large section of it the demand outpaces supply especially in food items. Down the economic ladder previously poor persons with improvement in earnings are consuming better quality foods like those containing proteins. This increase in demand should be met by corresponding rise in supply which is not happening due to reasons like, monsoon failure, hoarding, supply chain problems, inadequate cold storage facilities, farmers not getting remunerative prices etc. All these are operating almost simultaneously. Thus demand outstrips supply causing prices to rise as per fundamentals of economics. This leads to inflation rising. RBI increases interest rates to mop up excess money supply to try and arrest rising prices. Industry wants lower interest rates because that cheapens loans and improves their earning margins. thus there is a clash of interests and in a democracy lobbying takes place. So a pro industry government will try to reduce interest rates which RBI may resist if inflation rates are high. Thus if you are depending on bank interest rates for earning you will see a reduction due to lower interest rates. Your option is to take up some work which will give you some earning every month or lower your life style. In USA the deposit interest rates are 1 or 2% and old people continue working to supplement their incomes. India will continue with high inflation rates generally for many years.
