India reached the No.1 ranking in the ICC Test Cricket rating!
It is a happy moment to cherish for the Indian cricket. India reached the No.1 spot in the ICC test cricket rating on the morning of 6, December, 2009.It is a historic day.
Indian team achieved it with aplomb, by defeating Sri Lanka 2-0 in the current test series. Thanks to Virendar Sehwag, who scored 293 in the third and final test that helped India to score a mammoth total of 726 for 9 declared in the first innings. Sehwag was chosen the man of the match for the third cricket test as well as the man of the test series for his brilliant effort.
Sri Lankan captain Sangakara’s valiant century in the second innings was truly a captain’s knock but that went in vain. On the penultimate day Sri Lanka was battling to save the test through an unbeaten century from their captain Sangakara, but they lost 6 wickets at the end of the day and trailing by 56 runs to make India bat again.
However, on the fifth day, it was all over within an hour of play.Zaheerkhan made the first breakthrough by scalping the prizewicket of Sangakara for 137.Zaheer also took three other wickets.The last wicket was captured by Harbajan Singh.Sri Lanka was all out for 309 in the second innings.India won the third and final test by an innings and 24 runs and the Jaypee Cup.
Sri Lankan captain Sangakara in the post match interview said that India achieved it through a team effort. He also appreciated the supportive and sportive crowd, besides praising the wicket that offered something for every one. It was conducive both for batting as well as bowling.
The Indian captain M.S. Dhoni said that though it is happy to reach the No.1 spot in the ICC Test cricket rating, it is equally important to sustain the team spirit and remain on top.
