Hi friends in this article let us discuss about the India’s performance in the second day of the second test match held at Kanpur. India had a dream first day as they set a record for a maximum Indian score on any day, thanks to their brilliant centuries from Gambhir and Sehwag and a well supported 85 runs from Rahul Dravid. So everyone hoped that 700 plus is a par score after seeing the India’s performance at day 1 and with Sachin and Dravid continuing the day , from 417/2 this seems very easy as we had a strong batting line up to follow.
Dravid started the day with 85 runs and Sachin with 20 runs. Dravid played well and went on to make his 28th test century. He also become the 4th player in terms of number of test runs and with his good form, we can hope that he will soon chase Sachin, but this might be very difficult. Sachin played the innings very well, and he also hit a six in the Mendis bowling but got out trying for one shot too many, as he was caught at the mid off, when he tried to hit a six of Mendis ball.
But on the other hand, Dravid played very aggressively and he also hit a six, and it is very rare to see Dravid hitting a six in a test match. He was all set to make a double century as he missed the opportunity at Ahmedabad when he was got out at 177 runs. Fortune doesn’t favor him as he was run out in an extremely unfortunate manner, because Laxman hit a straight shot, and the bowler missed the opportunity to catch the ball, but it is fortunate for him as it touched his finger and hit the stumps at the bowling end, where Dravid was outside the crease. Very unfortunate for him, as he got out at 143 runs.
India went to lunch by losing two wickets, with Yuvraj and Laxman at the crease. Both the players slowly and steadily raised the score to 600 before Laxman getting out. After this Indian batting order collapsed as they were all out for 642 runs. Laxman and Yuvraj scored half centuries, with Yuvarj being very aggressive and also managed to hit couple of sixes. The Sri Lankan spinner, especially Herath did a great job as he picked 5 wickets in the first innings.
Then the Lankan batting started and India struck immediately with the wicket of Dilshan, caught by Ojha, and the wicket going to Zaheer Khan. Later the Lankan players started to build a partnership and they did well in not losing any more wickets.Ojha and Harbhajan bowled well to get at least a wicket, but they failed. Even Sehwag played a mental game, as he was constantly talking with the batsman and tempted them. Sri Lanka finished the day with 66/1 and let us hope that the Indian bowlers show good performance on day 3 and hopefully we can make them follow on and win the match.
