Hi friends in this article let us discuss about the India vs Sri Lanka first test match and we will discuss each and every day proceedings. Well, this is a huge match for one person, Sachin Tendulkar, as he is entering into the 21st year of his cricket year. Recently on 15th November, 2009, Sachin completed his 20 years o international cricket and more than that this is a very important series for India, because by winning this series 2-0, we will be the Number 1 test side in the world. This is a great chance for India, because they missed a similar opportunity against Australia and slipped to third position in ODI and now we have to use this chance for grabbing the first position in test. It would have been nice, if we would have won against Australia and if we managed to win the present series against Sr Lanka, because that would have made us the number one side in both ODI and Test.
Sri Lankan team is having a very long tour of nearly two months as they play three tests, 5 ODI’s and also two T 20s’.The first test match started on 16th November,2009 at Ahmedabad and prior to the match Tendulkar was felicitated by the Gujarat Chief minister for the successful completion of 20 years of cricket and also for achieving 17,000 runs in ODI’s. India is playing a test match nearly after 7 months and the fans are really excited to watch the performance of our team, with a great opportunity of getting into the top spot. This “Jaypee cup 2009” is a very crucial one for India as it is a great pride for getting the number 1 test side in the world.
It was a success for India for the series as the Indian captain, MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first on a wonderful batting track. Everyone expected that Sehwag would fire but unfortunately he stared well but couldn’t last long. It was a surprise opening bowling partnership for Sri Lanka that was behind the collapse of Indian batting..Welegedara and Prasad were the opening bowlers for the Lankan team, and especially credit must go to Welegedara as he struck here wickets in the first session.
First to go was Gautam Gambir who was bowled inside edge by Welegedra when the score was 14.Gambhir scored 1 runs from 10 balls. Then another shock, this time Virendar Sehwag was given out LBW and Welegedra took the wicket again. The bad start become disastrous when Scahin and Laxman got ouit when the team score was 31 and 32 respectively Welegedra and Prased took the wicket of SAchin and Laxman respectively.
Then slowly and steadily India started to fight back and they also wasn’t to forget the past when India was bowled out for 76 against South Africa at the same venue in 2008, which India eventually lost by an innings. Everybody felt that the similar thing might happen again, but Dravid and Yuvraj saved the match as they had a 125 runs partnership for the fifth wicket, before Yuvraj fell cheaply at 68 runs. Infact he was the reason for maintaining the run rate in spite of fall of wickets. So India managed to reach 150 from 32/4 at one stage and they were 157/5 when Yuvraj was out.
This laid way to the entry of captain MS Dhoni and he along with Dravid started to hammer the innings. Dhoni scored century and this was his second test century and first in India. Meanwhile Dravid who was very solid crossed 100 and also reached his 150.Dhoni unfortunately lost his wicket at 110 runs, when there were just 2 over’s left in the first day of play. Finally India finished the first day of play at 385/6, with Dravid(177) and Harbhajan(2) were there at the end of first day’s play.
