Hi friends here we will discuss about the day 4 of the first test between India and Sri Lanka. The majority of the test match was dominated by the Lankans and they entered the day 4 with a comfortable 165 runs lead, with Jayawardena, a double century and Prasana with 84.Surely the Lankans decided to create history by winning their first ever test match in Indian soil. So they started the 4th day well and indeed it was a great start as they went to lunch with wicket less in the first session, but many felt that they should have declared the innings half an hour before lunch. Mean while in this session Jayawardena crossed 250 runs and Prasana also reached his second test hundred.
This wicket also broke the record for the best ever sixth wicket partnership in the test history. So after the lunch Indians were pretty sure that the Lankans will declare very soon and the Indians have to start their second innings in the post lunch session. As expected the Lankans started to play aggressive and as a result Jayawardena tried to clear the boundary, by coming down the wicket, but he was eventually bowled by Amit Mishra. So the Indians finally got a wicket after two sessions and they also broke the partnership.
Then Prasad came and tried to increase the lead, which eventually crossed 300 runs and India eventually grabbed another wicket, before the Lankans declared the innings. So India were trailing by 334 runs and they need to save the test and that too should take care of innings defeat. But India started off with a flyer and Sehwag blasted first 3 overs. Then the pace came down and the innings slowly transformed into a slow and steady one. We did a great job as they didn’t lose any wicket at tea and Sewhag nearing his 50.
Sewhag reached his 50 after the tea break with a four and he eventually got out , trying one short too many. Hearth took his wicket and the India lost their first wicket. Then the hero o India’s first innings came he just played as a true wall and he hammered the innings, before getting out LBW , which many felt the ball was missing the leg stump. Meanwhile Gambir also reached his 50.With just 5 overs left, Amit Mishra was sent as night watchman and he did well and also supported Gambhir, and took care that India doesn’t lose any more wickets on day 4.
India finished the day with the score 190/2 and trailing by 144 runs, with day left.So we need to play a casual innings and never get tensed or nerous so that we can save the test match.
