Indian Premier League ( IPL ) is the most watched out T - 20 cricket tournament of the world. It is conducted by Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ).The upcoming is the third edition of Indian Premier League. The first IPL was very very profitable in all sense.Due to the Parliment elections in India last year the second edition of IPL had to conduct in South Africa creating a new trend and new history in cricket. Its high earning and success had made Lalit Modi , the chairman of IPL to conduct next edition ( probably the fourth ) in USA which is the best country for advertisement.Yes, his business thoughts goes like that. How money can be derived effectively. There are eight teams in IPL .They are Chennai Super Kings , Punjab Kings XI , Deccan Chargers , Royal Challengers Bangalore , Mumbai Indians , Kolkata Knight Riders , Delhi Dare Devils and Rajasthan Royals. The first IPL was won by Rajasthan Royals under the captaincy of Veteran Australian Spinner Shane Worn. But at South Africa they were not able to retain the championship.First IPL's last positioned Deccan Chargers emerged as winners at South Africa again under the captaincy of another Australian , Adam Gilchrist. Now the teams are aiming the third IPL.Here is a report of the auctions for IPL 3.
The auction for the third Indian Premier League (IPL) season had began in Mumbai today.Unlike the previous editions the most demanded foreign player of this year was from West Indies.Yes, West Indies all rounder Kieron Pollard was the man of this season due to his high performance in ICC T-20 Champions League of last year. There were four teams in auction to add Pollard to their line up.The four teams were Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore , Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. But through secret bid Pollard added to the line up of Mumbai Indians.3.42 Crores were paid by Mumbai Indians for this man.His base price was 2 lakhs US Dollars! The bid was through silent tie breaker introduced in this year's auction.According to this when there is a competition between teams for a player they are not able to bid after 750,000 US $.They have to disclose the secret amount to Lalit Modi , the chairman of IPL .The team with the highest bid amount will get the player. So the amount 750,00US $ will be given to the player and the rest goes to the IPL.
Another star player pacer Shane Bond of New Zeland also was added to King Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders line up through the silent tie breaker. The teams that competed for Bond were Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.Knight Riders paid 3.42 Crores to make the player their own.Wayne Parnel of South Africa was another attraction of this years auction.Delhi Dyer Devils caught Parnel in auction for an amount of 2.78 crores.
The auction was carried out for 66 players from foreign countries.A team can take ten foreign players in their line up.Most of the teams have almost taken this much.So one or two players will be considered by each team at this time.It was interesting that the T - 20 team captain of Pakistan Shahid Afreedi and Australion Bowler Brad Haud was not considered by any of the eight IPL teams in the first round auction.Regarding Shahid Afreedi, not only he but also none from Pakistan team was considered by IPL teams. The reason was the suspecious hands of Pakistan behind the infamous Mumbai Terrorist Attack. All the teams afraid their fans angriness if they take any of the Pakisthan team members in their line up.So like the previous season this Indian Premier League season may also may be dry with Pak players.Really it will be a loss to the eyes of Indian spectators if none of them get in a team.
The defending Champions Deccan Chargers strengthened their line up by adding Kemar Roach of West Indies for an amount of 3.28 crore rupees.Among senior Indian players today auction was only for Mohamed Kaif.He was added to the batting line up of Panjab Kings XI for an amount of 1.14 crores. His base value was Rs one lakh.He was considered again after completing the foreign players auction.
Like the senior team India has a good treasure of junior players also. Most of the members had proved their talent in different matches like Challenger Trophy, Irani Trophy , Ranji Trophy and even in previous editions of Indian Premier League. The emerging three Indian Under 19 team members were also sold out in today's auction. They were Ashok Menaria who added to Bangalore Royal Challengers , Harshal Patel to the line up of Mumbai Indians and Harmeet Sing to strengthen Deccan Chargers.Other members of the team may be auctioned in coming days.Really IPL provides a good opportunity for junior players to prove their ability and there by to get selection to One day Cricket team of India.Swapnil Asnodkar was such an emerged out player through first Indian Premier League. Also the foreign countries are making their team selection based on player's performance in IPL.
Many players are not sold in today's auction. The famous faces among unsold players are Shakibul Hassan of Bangladesh,Ramnaresh Sarwan of West Indies , Chamara Silva of Srilanka , Doug Bollinger , Daren Ganga of West Indies , Upul Taranga of Srilanka , Wavel Hinds of West Indies , Lendl Simmons of West Indies and Jonatha Trott.Pakisthan faces like Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal,Sohail Tanveer,Imran Naseer etc are also lying unsold.
