Sun’s atmosphere and the surrounding atmosphere can be divided into 3 parts.
1. Photosphere
2. Chromosphere
3. Corona
The photosphere temperature is around 5500 kelvins. The chrmosphere temperature is around 4500 kelvins to 10000 kelvins. Photosphere is the bottom part of sun’s atmosphere. On the top of it chromosphere and the upper part is corona. At the merging place of chromosphere and corona, temperature is around 5,00,000 kelvins.
The sun’s atmosphere is not clearly visible to us. It is covered by the photosphere. It can be seen only during solar eclipse. The corona temp is around 2 million kelvins to 5 million kelvins. At solar eclipse, we can see the outer portion of sun in white colour. This is due to high temperature of corona.
Photosphere may be compared with boiling water. In this layer, fluid boils with high temperature by making sound. You can’t imagine how the sound is! Because boiling water in small bowl makes lot of sound, but the temperature in photosphere is so high. This sound waves travels form the photosphere from the photosphere to corona and converts into high temperature.
The molecules in the corona are very thin than the molecules in photosphere. So due to sound waves coming from photosphere, the corona temperature becomes very high. The molecules in the corona travels upto 500 to 800 billion kilometers from the sun.
