Every living object gets and then dies. Birth to young one is given by the adults for continuing for continuing their life-circle on the earth. There are different ways of animal –reproduction. Babies are boron to humans. Young ones are hatched out from the eggs laid by birds and frogs.
Animals that give birth to babies
Animals such as human beings, lions, tigers, cows or bears give birth to babies. The formation of a baby takes place inside the mother’s womb. Before taking birth, young one is kept inside the mother’s body for many weeks. Babies are weak helpless at the time of birth. The care of young one is taken by the mother till they take care of themselves. Babies drink mother’s milk for sometime after their birth. These types of animals are known as animals.
Egg laying animals
Eggs are laid by the female birds in their nests.
Activity
Carefully observe the egg of a hen. The egg is protected by a hard outer shell. With the help of a spoon, break this egg. The inner material is collected in a bow.
The yellow part, present in the center, is known as yolk. A developing baby, known as the embryo, is found in the food for the embryo is also present in the yolk. White portion around the yolk is known as albumin.
About a hundred of eggs are laid by a female –frog a time in a lake or a pond. Tadpoles come out the eggs after hatching. They move like fishes in the water. Legs are developed after a few weeks. Their tails are lost, when tadpoles start growing. They are developed into the adult frog with in due course of time.
Insects
Eggs are laid every insect. Most of them undergo various stages before turning into an adult. There are three stages in the life of a cockroach. The baby cockroach is same as adult cockroach in appearance expect does not have wings. The baby cockroach is known as a nymph. Nymph sheds its skin many times before becoming an adult. This shedding of old skin is known as molting.
There are also three stages in the life cycle of grasshoppers, locusts and termites.
The young one hatches out from the eggs of butterflies, moths, files, beetles, ants and wasps. It is known as larvae. The larvae of butterflies and moths are known as caterpillars. There are various stages from the egg to the development of an adult. Growth of an organism through different stages of life is known as metamorphosis.
Life cycle of butterflies and moths consists of four stages. Eggs are laid by the female butterfly. These eggs are laid in a group, under the part of a leaf. The larva hatches out of the egg. The larva of a butterfly is called a caterpillar. The caterpillar eats leaves as their food. A shell is formed around its body called cocoon. This stage is known as pupa. The shape of caterpillar is changed inside the pupa. This pupa gives rise to an adult butterfly.
Other egg laying animals
Fish lay eggs in water. Thousands of eggs are laid at a time. These eggs give rise to the baby fish. Sometimes other fishes eat eggs and baby fishes. Eggs of snakes and turtles are laid on the ground.
Crocodile make a shallow pit in the sand near riverbank. Crocodile’s eggs are laid in these pits. These eggs are covered with sand. The mother takes care of eggs. When the babies come out of the eggs, mother digs away the sand let them free. These young ones are kept in a special bag below her mouth.
