The subject of cruelty towards animals by humans is controversial issue in the present world. There are many organizations which are setup with a main objective to stop brutality against animals. Researchers have proved that any living creatures which is capable in respiring air, eating food and reproduce, has feelings too. That is they are quiet conscious and can feel the pain and sense danger like human beings. Inorder, to protect themselves from any attack they too have defensive mechanisms which can be dangerous for humans too. The only aspect missing in them is intelligence, compassion and humility which are terms merely meant for humans. These missing aspects in animals cause damage to them often, which has increased with the advancement of science and technology. In Ancient times, animals were killed by humans for satisfying their hunger or covering their body. Now, animals are killed for entertainment and other requirements such as research, for medicines and in manufacturing some products.
The insensitive attitude towards animal by some people who have pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits and other tame animals is an alarming fact. However, people think animal cruelty is limited to pets but if we keenly observe, the food industry is highly prone to animal cruelty. There are many branded food supplying chains throughout the world which daily grow living beings in atrocious conditions, such industries cannot be ignored at all. Putting the chicken or goose in small cages that do not have place to move and feeding them to extreme level so that they can died due to liver enlargement is the most worst cruelty. This type of technical to kill animals for earning profit is outrageous form of animal cruelty in this advanced society. Such type of cruelty will continue as long as the demand for meat continues in this world. There are many alternative methods to avoid this cruelty but it completely depends on individuals whether to follow them or not.
They should think whether taking such type of meat is really good for their health or not and also understand that such outrageous act is not necessary for eating meat. Being human we are more intelligent than animals and respect for another living being life is absolutely needed, which is also to be maintained. These animals do have complete rights to live in normal conditions such as proper sunlight, clean drinking water and health condition. And, while slaughtering care should be taken completely and life should be taken in humane manner as one should respect that the animal is sacrificing its life for the benefit of humans. Some small organic producers follow this type of mechanism but it is difficult for such products to sale in stores.
Experimenting on animals is another form of cruelty that is generally followed in pharmaceuticals industry, cosmetic industry and even for some military purpose. The animals like tigers, rhinos, bears, turtles are used in medicines in some regions and even other animals are prone to risk of been killed for the similar reason. This practice is unacceptable one and creates pain for those speechless creatures. An advanced civilized society should avoid such type of cruelty. There are some other instances such as for entertainment purpose, such as circus and amusement park, Zoos etc. Some people even hunt for entertainment and for sports purpose by hurting them unnecessary. Some countries have strict laws on using animals for hunting and sports purpose, which may be helpful to some extent. But still poaching is done in some countries for trunks of elephants and skins of different animals. Due to this illegal activity some rare species survival is becoming difficult or is at risk. Though the present world is civilized and inspite of increase in public awareness of the dangers associated with illegal poaching of endangered species, still the reports of poaching continue. Finally, being a human we should be sensible and stop doing such acts, otherwise they would not be any difference between animals and humans.
Though most of the cases in cruelty against animals are intentionally done, there is possibility of unintentional cruelty too. We come across such cruelty in case of small micro-organisms, insects and other living being which are not visible to human eyes. This type of unknown killing is also one type cruelty. However, it is very difficult to stop such cruelty but still in some religions such as Jainism, where respect and value of life is given and for that take precaution to avoid such cruelty. Though it is not advised to follow similar precautions as we cannot ensure whether these precautions can save every single life, but there is possiblity to avoid intentional cruelty on animals.
