One incident in Gandhi travel

No comments on “One incident in Gandhi travel”

Once, Gandhi was sailing in a big British ship, to attend a conference in England. Sitting at a desk on the deck, he was writing a letter. A well –dressed young Englishman was amused to see Gandhi who appeared to him quite different from all the other passengers on board.

The vain Englishman went to his room and taking some bits of paper, wrote nasty sentences and drew funny pictures to annoy Gandhi. He wondered why a half- naked, bald –headed and toothless old man should go to England at all. He advised Gandhi to give up this `madness’ of going abroad. He neatly pinned all the bits of paper together and returned to the deck.

Walking proudly, he came to the desk where Gandhi sat writing. As Gandhi looked up, the Englishman handed over to him the pinned bits of paper, expressing his disrespect to Indians. ``you will find interesting and useful. Read it and keep it with you’’. He said to Gandhi.

He then went and stood at some distance to see Gandhi recreation to what he had done. Gandhi calmly read every word written by him, raised his head and looked for a moment at the young Englishman. Then, he slowly took off the pin and threw away the bits of paper into the waste –papers basket under the desk. ``I have done just what you asked me to do,’’ he said, Giving the young man his usual smile. I have kept your pin with me which is the only interesting and useful thing you gave me, Thank you’’.

The young Englishman at once realized mistake that, on seeing what he had written, Gandhi would fly into a rage and create a scene which all the white passengers onboard would enjoy. Now Gandhi short and sweet reply went straight to his heart. He realized how intelligent, cultured and humble Gandhi was. He hung his head in shame and went back the way he had come. This lesson which he learnt from Gandhi clearly went a long way towards putting down his vanity and sense of superiority.

Five Pillars of Islam

No comments on “Five Pillars of Islam”

#)The Five Pillars of Islam, which is also called as arkan in Arabic,is nothing but the five ritual duties that mainstream Muslims view as central to their faith.

#)These are

(1)Shahada or Kalima: Pronouncing the confession of faith

(2)Salat: Performing the five daily prayers

(3)Saum:Fasting during the month of Ramadan

(4)Zakat: Paying the alms tax

(5)Hajj: Performing, at least once in life, the major pilgrimage to Mecca

#)But in most places where Muslim is considered as  the official religion, Muslims are not punished for failing to perform these duties.

#)But in some Islamic states, however, public denial by a Muslim of the validity, importance, or centrality of the five pillars is generally considered an act of heresy and it is also  punishable by death.

SHAHADA:

#)The shahada is the Arabic statement

“La ilah illa Allah wa Muhammad rasul Allah,” which means

“There is no God but the one God and Muhammad is His prophet.”

#)But in the case of Shia Islam, they  generally add to this the Arabic phrase “wa Ali Wali Allah,” meaning “and Ali ibn Abi Talib is the friend of God.”

#)In addition to this confession of faith, they are also supposed to express their belief in the Quran, angels, and the Last Day.

#)The shahada also is uttered as part of the Muslim call to prayer  which is known as adhan.

SALAT:

#)The salat, the five obligatory daily prayers and it is also known as the namaz in countries like Iran, India, and Turkey.

#)These prayers are  performed only after the  ritual bathing and it takes place before the sunrise, at noon, in the mid-afternoon, immediately after sunset, and before midnight.

#)Mainstream Shia Muslims combine their noon and afternoon prayers and also the sunset and midnight prayers so that they need only pray three times a day.

#)Praying in Islam is also associated with a specified set of postures, such as standing, bowing, and prostrating which they follow

SAUM:

#)The saum is a mostly prescribed only for healthy, adult Muslims during the 30 days of Ramadan, whic is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.

#)From dawn until dusk, these are things they folloe - no food, drink and many criteria.

#)Ill person and nursing women are excused, but they are expected to make the fast someother time when they become healthy

ZAKAT:

#)The zakat or alms tax is levied annually on the crops, livestock, precious metals, and cash of all those living above subsistence and whose debts do not exceed their assets.

#)It is basicall collected, and then distributed to  the poor.

#)However, there is a complain that some Islamic leaders have collected the zakat to add to their royal treasuries.

#)So for this reason, the identity of the zakat collector and distributor has often been a mystery.

#)Since the late Middle Ages ( 476-1453 AD), mainstream Shia Muslims have had the tax collected by their jurists, legal scholars of Islamic law, who act according to their self-styled role as governors of the imam.

HAJJ:

#)The hajj is the “greater” of the two pilgrimages to Mecca required for all the  Muslims.

#)All healthy adult Muslim, men and women should perform Hajj atleast once in their life time if they have sufficient means and safe transport.

#)There is a  lesser pilgrimage, called umra, Muslims must perform the hajj during the first half of the month of Dhu al-Hijja, the last month of the lunar year.

#)Those who perform the hajj can use the honorific title ,i.e  Hajji if male and Hajja if female.

CHARITY and your donation

No comments on “CHARITY and your donation”
Generally, we don’t get much time to do good deeds. If we plan to sponsor a child in India and fulfil their wishes, then this could be the best work of our lives. Now days, we see a lot of children wandering aimlessly on footpaths and other places. The reason behind this condition is that they are deprived of basic necessities like education, proper food and a home. Poverty has got into the roots of the country and spoiled the life of these children. On seeing their wretchedness, it seems that darkness has engulfed them completely. But, we can bring a ray of hope in their lives by making efforts for their development.
It is not like that, their parents might not have tried their best to provide everything to their children. At times, unavailability of means and money create obstacles in the way. That’s the borderline requiring you to come forward and sponsor a girl child or boy child. Not just the parents of underprivileged children; but, the citizens of India also have a responsibility towards them. They should try every possible means to provide them with cash or kind for improvising their condition. In fact, it should be a collective effort to improve the future of our nation.
Sometimes, it might not be possible for you to give a proper direction to your donations. This is one of the most difficult times, as you must be willing to help and not getting the right track. On such a situation, charity organisations and NGOs can help you to a large extent. You can sponsor a child charity organisation and send donations to them. The representatives of that particular charity organisation distribute the donation to children of different areas. You can donate in terms of toys, books and other materials. These are few of the facilities that poor children might be missing because of the lack of money in their family.
If you are unable to provide all the basic facilities to such children; then, you can select a particular area and sponsor a child in India for that. Education is one area that is most essential for children. You can but books, copies and other stationary material for such kids and fulfil their dream of becoming doctor, teacher or army officer. Apart from this, you can even try to teach them on part-time basis. By doing so, you will definitely show them the light of their future.
Happiness is what a child wants and gifting them smile would be your best endeavour. When you will donate for poor children, you will realise that it feels so great on helping someone in need. After all, everyone deserves to be treated well and establish a place for themselves in the world. It is said that if you do one good deed everyday; then, you are chastising yourself from within. So, helping disadvantaged children is the best deed you can do. This will provide satisfaction to you that good deed is done and will bring happiness in the lives of such children.
