The quraysh and the prophet
When Prophet Muhammad was spreading Islam and reaching the message of love, some tribes, like the Quraysh were against him. They named him Mudhammam, the condemned one. The meaning of the prophet’s real name Muhammad was 1the praiseworthy one’ and since the Quraysh didn’t want to honor Muhammad, they heaped abuse on him by calling him Mudhammam.
This was undoubtedly intended to hurt and humiliate him but Prophet Muhammad replied simply and positively. He said, `Since they abused the one called Mudhammam, their abuse did not fall on me my name is Muhammad, not Mudhammam.
Islam like other religions has its own philosophy and principles. But this philosophy has never been a topic of discussion. Quran contains all that was revealed to Mohammed by angle Gabriel.
It cannot be said with certainty which part of Quran was written during Muhammad’s life time. But the fact remains that Quran contains such descriptions and images which resemble those found in the bible. Adam, Ismail, Abraham, Joseph and Solomon, etc are the characters found in the bible also.
What Mohammad got as a message from god is contained in Quran. God ordered Muhammad to read it itself and ask other men to do so. Quran is God’s words preached through Muhammad’s mouth. Quran is Abu-Bakr’s compilation of Muhammad’s preaching, which he did one year after Muhammad’s death.
Hadies is the compilation of the sayings of Muhammad and his immediate disciples.
It is said that the war of succession started even before Muhammad died. After his death his followers were divided into camps. One of them wanted that the succession should go to one of Muhammad’s relatives because Muhammad had revealed to Ali certain things of `Quran’ which were not included in the Quran. They were called Shias. The second camp believed that whatever Muhammad had to say on the strength of his divine intuition, was included in the Quran. Therefore his closest friends were to be his successors. They were called `Sunnis’.
Besides this twofold division, some others sects and traditions emerged in Islam in due course of time. But one thing is clear that the speed with which Islam spread in the world was unprecedented.
Jesus Christ was born great. He was the son of God. He had miraculous power which wondered all.
Lord Jesus
Jesus Christ was born in 25 Th December in Jerusalem. Mary was and Joseph was father’s name. He was a Jew. That time many blind faiths were prevalent in the society. Some clergymen cheated and misguided the innocent people. Jesus Christ could not bear all these evils. He advised the people not to believe in such blind theories. One day Jesus came to the Sea of Galilee. He climbed a hill and sat on it. After some time a crowd of people were came there. They brought some lame people, some blind, deaf and dumb people with them. They thought that handicapped would get well if Jesus blessed them.
There was a miracle. The dumb men began to talk, the lame men began to walk and the blind men began to see Jesus with their own eyes. The deaf man could hear clearly. All the people present there wondered very much.
The crowed sang and danced merrily. They sang songs in praise if God. They were hungry yet they were glad. Jesus called his disciples and said, ``Give them food’’.
Talks
His disciples said, ``Dear lord, how can we give them food. They are so many and we have nearly no food’’.
Christ: How many people are there?
Disciple: My lord! Thousands of people are there.
Christ: How many loaves have you?
Disciple: Only seven loaves.
Christ: How many fish have you?
Disciple: A few fish only.
Christ: Bring the seven loaves and the few fish here.
His disciples brought the loaves and the fish that they had with them. Then they put that little food before Jesus Christ.
Jesus looked up in the sky and said, ``Thank you, father, for the food you have sent for these people’’. He then said to his disciples, ``Distribute these loaves and fish among these people’’.
Thus four thousand people at the bread and fish. They were satisfied and their bellies were full. All the people shouted with joy,
`Victory of Jesus, Victory to Christ, He for fives his foes, he is the son of God.’
There was a strange method of taking a census. Unlike the present times, each and every member of a family had to go a particular place to get his name registered. For purpose Mary and Joseph also reached a school building in the city. The school building was already full and was bursting at its seams. They got some place only it in the stable, where Mary give birth to her first issue, who later on became famous as Christ. At that time Emperor Augustine occupied the throne of Rome and the king of Palestine was a puppet in Augustine’s hands.
Joseph was a carpenter. His son also worked as such for 30 years. But Christ was exceptionally bright from his childhood. He was well known for his truthfulness and honesty even as a carpenter. Everybody wanted to get work done from him. He was also a serious thinker. He started preaching to the people the lesson of kindness, peace, mercy, non-violence and good conduct. He began to be addressed as a messenger of peace, as an incarnation of kindness and a `Mahatma’. He became a mediator and a social reformer. His hands were busy in work but his mind was with God Almighty. As his popularity with the people increased, he began to be an eyesore to the powers that be. The authorities did not like his popularity.
One of the main events of Christ’s life was his meeting with Yahunna. At that time Christ was 30 years old. Yahunna was Jew and used to live on the bank of river Jordan. Christ took water in his hands and got initiation from him. From here started he was his spiritual life. After Yahunna’s arrest, Christ roamed along the banks of the river and preached. He lived in the deserts of Jordan for 40 days. He did rigorous penance. It is said that that a struggle ensued between him and Satan. To gain control over of the mind implies gaining control over Satan. Conquering the mind is one of the biggest conquests. Then he controlled his worldly desire. Ultimately he set about basic reforms in the social order of the world.
At that time the Jews were moving towards a moral decline. They were entangled in various blind superstitions. Christ reacted sharply to his behavior. He brought the message of non-violence to the people. Truth was part of his life. He meditated silently in the mountains and forests and achieved inner power and strength. Legends grew round his name, e.g. he could walk on water, he could heal lepers, and etc. people have a familiar tendency to weave miracles round great men.
Gradually his impact increased. People began to come to him from far near. Initially he preached only among the Jews, but afterwards he started initiating other people into his fold. He loved the poor and the downtrodden and sat with them and ate with them. He was afraid of neither the priests nor the authorities. The authorities smelt rebellion, theism and self-praise in him because he considered himself the son of God.
Christ out towards Jerusalem when he was 33 years old. His admires grew in number but so did his advisories. The latter wanted to punish him and began to hatch a conspiracy. He went to a hillock along with his disciples. Peter, James and John were dozing on the hillock. Christ awakened them saying, ``I wanted you to sleep peacefully but now I will have to awaken you.’’

If you go to the equatorial forest of Africa, you will find the simple natives praying, though they are uneducated. The Muslims stretch prayer mats and speak to God. The Christian go to church and pray. The Hindus go to the temple and ring the bell to tell God that they have come to speak to Him. Prayer is a necessary element in all religion.
Praying is an act by which a person lifts up his mind heart God. When we pray we acknowledge before God that we are poor, small creatures depending upon Him. There are two kinds of prayers, community prayer and personal prayer. When we pray in a group, family, class, temple, Masque, church or gurudwaras then it is known ass community praying. When an individual prayer is alone then it is called personal praying. Prayer should rise from the heart. If the heart does not pray, it is useless for the mouth to utter the words.
*The time of praying is not important
When should we pray? There is no fixed time to pray. We pray to adore God, to thank him, to ask forgiveness or to ask for a favor. In a way, our heart should always be praying to God. It is not necessary to keep our attention focused on God. It is, however, useful to have certain moments of the day for loving personal prayer. The time can be in the morning when we rise, when we began an important task or at the close of day.
*The language used for praying is not important
We should remember that God is not concerned with how beautiful our language is. He is not concerned with excellent phrases. He does not care for the sweet melodies with which we sing our prayer. It is not important to use some particulars words for praying. God welcomes the prayer that is sincere and from the heart.
