Selecting an honest tax-collector
*Tax is the money paid to the government by the people.
A sultan wanted an honest man to collect taxes. He invited all those who were interested to come to the palace. When they arrived, they were asked to meet the sultan in his hall. For this they had t pass through a dark passage first. One by one the candidates entered the passage.
As each candidate entered the hall, the sultan ordered the musicians to play a fast tune. Each person was asked to dance. Each politely refused. Only one man sprang to his feet and danced merrily.
The sultan immediately selected him as the tax-collector. The sultan explained that the passage had been filled with bags of gold coin. The others had filled their pockets with coins. If they had dance, the coins would have jingled loudly. That is why they did not dance: they were afraid that they would have been caught.
``This man does not fear dancing as he has done nothing wrong’’, said the Sultan, ``He will be an honest tax-collector,’’
