Little Priyanka a nine years old girl, was returning fro0m the market, with her dear mother.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of an animal in pain. She looked here, there and everywhere. Finally, she found a puppy, badly hurt, near a wall. Some children had thrown stones and hurt the puppy.
Priyanka loved to have pets, but her parents would not allow because animals tent to dirty the place. They also carry infections. And above all, Priyanka would not study and would play with the pet in the house throughout the day.
When Priyanka and her mother saw the puppy’s condition, they decided to bring it home and tend to it. Priyanka was very happy. She cleaned its wounds with sprit and put ointment, and fed it milk. She covered it with a soft blanket and put it to sleep, near the door of her house.
When Priyanka father came home in the evening from work, she eagerly showed him the puppy. He was angry and told her to throw it out. She was very sad. She started sobbing and crying. She went out and left it in the compound of the next building, and requested her friends there to look after it. Every day she would visit the puppy, fondle it with love and give it food. The puppy grew up into a healthy, big dog.
One day, when Priyanka was alone and playing in the compound, some thieves came prowling around. They started troubling and threatening Priyanka. The dog saw that the thieves were trying to harm Priyanka; the dog pounced on the thieves and attacked them. The thieves took to their heels and Priyanka was saved. When Priyanka’s parents returned and learnt how the dog had saved Priyanka, they were very pleased with the dog. They brought the dog home and looked after it with great care and affection.
After some years, the family had to leave foe The United kingdom. They felt very sorry to leave the dog behind. They finally handed over the dog to the society for prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They knew that it would be looked after well. Yet, they kept constantly in touch with society to enquire about the welfare of the dog.
