Kuku was crying with pain. One of his eye was bulging out and bleeding badly. It was bitten by a stray dog. Kuku, who was my pet dog, never used to come out of house premises but tthat day I myself let him out. I thought now he iwa growing up and so must see and face the world around. Just after few minutes I realised that it was a big mistake of mine to let him out alone.
I covered him in a towel keeping his head in my lap and asked the driver to drive us to the veterinary hospital. When I reached, there were atleast fifteen more dogs waiting for their turn and some were serious like Kuku bleeding and crying. I didn't have to ask anyone for my turn, others allowed me to go inside breaking the queue.
All the three bleeding dogs including Kuku were called inside for treatment by the vet. The helping compounder was cleaning the wounds of other two dogs while the vet was examining Kuku. He himself washed Kuku's eye and asked me to bring medicines from outside. I at once rushed to the medicine shops in the market to buy those.
By the time I returned, the other two dogs were being dischrged after treatment while I was directed to carry Kuku to the operation theatre.
I had to sign a risk note before Kuku's operation.
Now other people in the queue were getting a bit irritated because they knew that taking Kuku in operation theatre meant their wait to be prolonged by atleast half an hour. But none said anything loudly. They were just whispering.
Kuku was taken inside the operation theatre for surgery and it was over within twenty minutes. Vet told me that Kuku's bulging and protruding eyeball has been replaced in the socket, it will look as before after healing but the vision is lost and will not be back.
I thanked evreyone who allowed me to break the queue for the co-operation and came home.
Now Kuku is five years old and has well adjusted his life with one eye.
We both are happy to be together and alive.
