He is 28 years old, eligible bachelor and holds a good position in a reputed company. He has two lovable children. He is not their father nor did he adopt them but they are his life now....
Then, he was a very small child who was always naughty and tries to irritate his mother to go outside. It will be cold outside but his mother never says no for his interests. She covers him up with his small sweater and monkey cap and they go out to the nearby park for a walk. He plays till he gets tired and bored but his mother never gets tired of him. She waits for him in the park till he wants to play.
His father comes home by 7pm. He sits on his father's lap and asks several questions about anything and everything. His father, though had a hectic day at the office answers his questions with patience and satisfies his quest for knowledge. Never had he in his seen them to get angry with him.
Time flew by and he grew up gradually under his father's care and mother's love. He studied well and got a good job in a reputed company through he got a chance to go abroad.
"This is my dream", he thought,"and I'm settled now".
But when he entered the new place, he was not able to adjust to it's culture and freedom. He understood the difference in relationships between ours and their culture. But he cannot criticise them because he left his parents and his country for money and fame. His parents are becoming old people now. This is when they need his support and that is what he is not providing now. He understood their importance in his life. He left for India the next day itself and joined a new company. Life was going smooth.
His father retired from his office and was not able to adjust to the new free time he has. He has no work to do now. His parents were getting bored in life without anything to do. He became busy with his office commitments and forgot his responsibilities. His mother was not active like before, she too had become old.
One day he came late from work and both his parents were waiting for him. His father during the dinner asked him several questions about his job,company,collegues..etc. He became restless and frustrated and shouted at his father. His mother developed a lonesome world and started to avoid having tablets for her B.P and waits for him everyday till he comes and tries to eat with him. But most of the times he eats at his office and comes home late. He becomes irriated with all this attitude of his parents.
He tells this to one of his coolegues about this and he suugests to join them in an Old age Home. He first accepts and thinks that is the best solution. But when he thought about it again that night he hated himself for such a selfish thought.
"How selfish have I become?", he thought,"What would have happened if my parents joined me in an orphanage due to my naughty nature?".
This thought made him realise how big mistake he had made. H decided that day itself that he will never leave his parents in his lifetime. They will be with him. He will be patient with them from now as they had been once when he was small boy. When this thought came he thought of all the good times his father and mother gave him and the pains they took to give him a good life. His heart became heavy and for the first time in life he cried. He went to his parents room, his mother was reading a book and his father was writing something. He kept his head on his mother's lap and cried till his selfishness died down. His mother was silent and his father looked worried.
All his selfishness, frustration, irritation died down completely. Now he was a new man with two children, his most important assets of love and care. He looked at his parents. These are my children now and I should take care of them. He looked at his father and said, " I'm fine dad", and went to his room.
From that day on, he took care of his parents like they took care of him when he was a child. They are now two most wonderful children who lived for him years together and now he is living for them and he'll take care of them.
As the proverb says: Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members.
