In this PROVERB SERIES-4 article, the proverb that I have taken is:
TRUTH ALONE TRIUMPS.
From the time we get up from our sleep in the morning, till we go to bed again at night, we tell a hundred lies, most of them unwittingly. Not because we take pleasure in it, but because a lie comes very quickly and very conveniently and that saves our face.
In simple matters, a lie may be very helpful. It may save a lot of embarrassment. But it is only for the time being. After all life is not one solid entity; but it is made up of little events and experiences; each may look different and unconnected. But there is an invisible pattern and an indivisible continuity. We can never take out a single event and wipe it off from the sum total of our life. It is not possible to set the clock back and start things afresh once again.
So a single slip or a lie unwittingly uttered will never be inconsequential. It will have its effects and after effects. So we cannot afford to be careless and utter lies in simple day to day events.
But some people think that truth and honesty have no place in this cut throat world. Where the competition is merciless and survival is in question, these high sounding words may look empty and meaningless. But what is good will or name or popularity? No business can thrive without good will; no politician will survive without popularity. And you cannot deceive all people, all time.
But more important than society, more compelling than law, we think we all have, something which we call it conscience. We always hear its palpitations and only when we listen to it, we are at peace. What else do we want but peace? How else will we get it without treading on the path of truth?
So try to honest and true to all irrespective of our situations!
