We all feel stressed after a tiring day or when we face any problematic situation. One who successfully copes with stress is he/she who can see challenges in front of him or her, instead of problems. Here, I would like to discuss some ways to fight your tensions and stressful situations; in other words, to boost your stress-busting skills.
#1. Turn Worry into Problem Solving
Worry is essentially the condition where you imagine frightful situations or outcomes. Turn your worry into an effective problem solving method by following the below strategy:
a> Define the problem clearly by putting down on paper.
b> Brainstorm for all possible solutions.
c> Evaluate each idea. Categorise them based on what can be done immediately, what are a bit difficult or time-taking, and what cannot be done.
d> First, finish the things that can be done now, then start on the things that are a bit difficult and then reflect on things that you thought could not be done at all.
#2. Maintain your dignity and composure
Do not get angered or tensed up in stressful conditions. Being cool aids you to deal with the situation in an effective way. It helps you to think with a clear mind and come out with a good solution.
#3. Be your own Devil’s Advocate
Write down your worry. Then ask yourself these two things:
-- “What is the worst thing that can happen if what I want to happen doesn’t happen or what I don’t want to happen does happen?”
--“What is the best thing that can happen if what I want to happen does happen or what I don’t want to happen doesn’t happen?”
#4. Find plus points
Many dreaded situations are never 100% negative. There are always some advantages hidden inside. So, try to find the upsides of your stressful situation; this will ease your tension and worry.
#5. Develop Stress Busters
Engage in any stress buster or hobby that you like, to give you peace of mind and divert your concentration for a while. Or just go out and take a long ride.
#6. Get Inspired
Try to get inspired and motivated. You can read inspiring stories about others or reflect on your own past successes. This is sure to decrease your stress.
#7. Share your burden
Sharing your worry with parents and/or friends is also an effective way to relieve you of stress to a large extent. So, relate your troubles to your closed ones; you will feel composed and even be able to get some help from them.
Finally learn and develop yourself form a stressful or difficult situation and you will find yourself progressing in life.
I would like to wind-up with two quotations which I found very nice and inspiring. They are:
“Stress is not what happens to us. It is our response to what happens. And response is something we can choose” — Maureen Killoran
“Tough times never last, but tough people do” — Robert H Schuller
